OUR TUBESA question of security, check the number of chambers.At SOUTHLAND, tubes have 4 to 6 chambers, each measuring never more than 5 feet. Moreover, each chamber is sealed with a rigidcover. The competition often has only 2 chambers so, in case of perforation, 50% of the tube fills up with water.

SOUTHLAND tubes have a diameter of 25’’ on its luxury models. The aluminum is .081 of thickness, of marine quality 5052-H36 or 5052-H32.

OUR TRANSVERSE BARS (Z-Bars)A question of security and construction quality, check the thickness of the transverse bars.SOUTHLAND offers bars in form of a « Z » with a thickness of 3/16’’ on their three sides. These bars hold up the floor to every 24 ’’. The competition does not alwaysoffer such thick bars on three sides and it happens that the floor is hold up to 36’’, leading to a less stronger floor.

OUR PONTOON NOSESOur pontoon noses (the front end of the tube), on our luxury models, have a design that integrates the waterplough ailerons, giving a much moreresistant nose and aesthetically pleasing profile.

OUR FLOORSA question of solidity and durability, check the construction.The deck material is 3/4 “ Douglas fir, 0.40 CCA pressure-treated plywood which gives a very strong and quiet floor. The floor comes with a limited lifetime warranty against rot and, because it is screwed at every 8’’ on the z-bars, SOUTHLAND covers even the floor against the warping. Some competitors fix their floor to the z-bars with rivets. No need to be expert to know thatscrews will resist better than rivets to stress and strain from water pressure and flow.

OUR MOTOR BOXA question of quality and balance of the boat, check the solidity, the binding and the extension of the engine box.SOUTHLAND builds the most solid motor box on the market. It consists of a structure created out of aluminium and fixed (bolted to 4 or 5 transverse bars) to supporteven the largest motors.

After numerous tests, SOUTHLAND decided in favor to extend the engine box beyond the tubes. And several evidences confirm us, that this extension ensures the per-fect balance of the pontoon.

OUR CARPETSA question of quality and durability, check the thickness (in ounces) of the carpet covering the floor. Southland offers a superior marine quality carpet madeof extruded fiber, with a grade of 28 oz on our luxury models and of 20 oz on our intermediate and introduction models. You will see the advantage due to itslongevity and its lasting aestheticism. The competition often offers a carpet at a lesser quality with a grade of 16 oz or less.

OUR CORNERSOur corners, on the luxury models, are cast aluminum molded with baked paint and integrated cleat. This gives a very pleas-ing appearance and a greater impact strength when boat is docking.

OUR TOPSA question of comfort and durability, check the used material as well as the whole floor surface covered by the full camper top.At SOUTHLAND, tops are made of « Top Gun » canvas, the best on the market, with a five-year warranty against fading.

Our full camper tops cover the whole floor, including the deck in front of the railings. This prevents the water to infiltrateunder the front door and soak your carpet in case of rain. Some competitors end their full camper tops at the front railings,leaving the front deck open. You could always add a bib, but think of the troubles of « I take out the bib », « I put back thebib », and what about this operation when it starts raining during navigation. Also, when your full camper top is open, if yourtop ends at the railings, you will loose circulation and storage space.

STORAGE SPACEA question of confort and convenience, check the total room offered for storage.Our pontoon boats offer storage space up to 91 ft3. On our pontoon boats, each space is used to offer you the maximum con-venience. Even the cushions of the extra beds have their own storage. The competition often offers extra beds where thecushions are stored in the sofas, having as result that you loose your whole storage space in the front benches.

RADIOSA question of performance and durability, check the radio type, the brand and the strength (amount of watts).SOUTHLAND installs only CLARION brand CD or radio-cassettes, the best reputated on the market. The amount of watts saysa lot about the quality of the sound system.At SOUTHLAND, we install guaranteed marine radios, 200 watts CD radios and 160 watts radio cassettes.

PERFORMANCE OF A PONTOON BOAT EQUIPPED WITH THREE TUBES

The performance of a pontoon boat equipped with a third tube is unquestionably improved. Such a pontoon boat could be equippedwith a hydraulic steering system and have also performance kit functioning on each side of the three tubes when the capacity reach-es 150HP and more. Let see in detail the performance points.

A greater stability: The stability of a pontoon boat equipped with a third tube is increased.The pitching and tossing caused by waves doesn’t almost exist anymore as the third tube increases the contact points to the waterat the center of the pontoon boat.

A better performance: As a pontoon boat equipped with three tubes is more elevated, it floats above the water instead of crossingit, eliminating a great source of restriction. This also allows to increase the swiftness while preserving the same motor horse powerused on a pontoon boat equipped with 2 tubes.

Gas saving: As a pontoon boat equipped with three tubes floats more above the water, the motor works less, leading to gas saving.In addition, the floor beneath the pontoon boat equipped with three tubes is entirely covered with aluminium sheets, thus hidingthe “Z” bars. This eliminates another significant source of restriction, explaining the gas saving.

A better operating : By adding a hydraulic steering system, a pon-toon boat equipped with three tubes operates – turns, accostings,etc. – with greater ease. Furthermore, our numerous tests has provedthat a larger middle pontoon improves the boat’s curving (pro-nounced curves).

A better balance: When installing a 34 gal. gas tank (optional) in thecentral tube, we increase the balanc of the ponton boat. Furthermore,the gas autonomy (as the tank holds 33 gal. instead of 25 gal.) andthe storage space (with the elimination of the tank under the rearsundeck) will be increased.
