3. Dark tourism

Dark tourism (also black tourism or grief tourism) is tourism involving travel to sites

associated with death and tragedy. Thanatourism, derived from the Ancient Greek

word thanatos for the personification of death, is associated with dark tourism but

refers more specifically to violent death; it is used in fewer contexts than the terms

dark tourism and grief tourism. The main draw however to these locations is mostly

due to their historical value rather than their associations with death and suffering.

There is one area that can be categorized as an area of dark tourism in the solo, which

is Panggung Songgo Buwono in Keraton Kasunanan Surakarta. Some people

especially the person who live in Keraton believe, that the Panggung Songgo Buwono

is sacred place, because in certain time Kanjeng Ratu Kencanasari, a ruler of

supernatural beings from Laut Selatan will presence in this place. In this same place

Kanjeng Ratu Kidul met the King. During the meeting between the King and Kanjeng

Ratu Kidul, they will discuss matters related to the preservation of the palace, but it

also involves talks and determines a solution, when the court faces a fairly

complicated problem.

Ritual Ratu Kidul.

When the court held a ritual ceremony wilujengan jumenengan (salvation increase

throne) of the king, should be in the title Bedaya Ketawang sacred dance (dance was

supposedly created by Ratu Kidul) and there's more special rituals in petilasan Ratu

Kidul places, as in Khayangan and Cempuri Parangkusumo. Including Panggung

Songgo Buwono. That way the kingdom will always be protected and assisted

magically by the Kanjeng Ratu when faced with complex problems

4. Ghost Tourism

Ghost tourism refers mainly to the desire to encounter ghosts, interest in the

supernatural, and visitation of places associated with the spirit world such as

cemeteries, haunted houses, castles, and historic towns.

Universitas Sebelas Maret Surakarta (UNS an education institution that stood on the

land whose area reaches approximately 60 acres, an area once used as a burial place

which is surrounded by marshes. in the development process the tomb was moved to

the area of Ngoresan, Karanganyar and partly in Tawangmangu, but there are still

some scattered graves were not moved in several Teacher training and Education

faculty, Faculty of Law, Faculty of Medicine, Faculty of Arts, Faculty of Agriculture,

and local kendil hill, the hill located behind the building Argobudoyo. There is still

one grave that belong to Prince palace. In addition, there is also grave Nyah Rewel,

Nyah Rewel was the first tomb in UNS.

The presence of these tombs was a bother, and some are not. A tomb is a tomb which

often interferes in FKIP is located near the blue statue which was near the temple,

Page 7: Pop Culture Tourism in Solo

there is often an accident. In the process of construction of a building in UNS, and

even loss of lives as a library building takes 5 workers, as well as the expense of

building Auditorium 6 people working, whether it's caused by spirits or by mistake

when workers themselves works.

Almost every corner of the UNS is a magical place, named kendil hill, a hill not far

from the Faculty of Agriculture and Faculty of Medicine is known for sightings of a

Horse Carriage Kencana with the coachman, not far from the hill there is the tomb of

the most kendil UNS famous, a place that often occurs apparition of a woman with

long hair straggling down who believed as Nyah Rewel. Dead river water flow that

was in the Faculty of Agriculture has its own story, a story that is not rational, there

are people who never saw man walk on water and disappear by itself.

Many faculties are in UNS has its own story about the magical events that are

believed about the truth. Faculty of Medicine at the much talked about it’s sacred by

many students, there is an event experienced by a lecturer in the anatomy room, a

corpse soaked in water to suddenly wake up by itself. Another case in Faculty of

technique, there is a more sinister story again, a story about a security guard who

committed suicide rather on the ground floor in the building I WAS a woman. Until

now the room is never entered by the person and is always locked, except a security

guard who works replace the security guard who had died. He vowed to always look

and opened the door of the room which is used for the suicide. One day, the security

guard forget about his vow , then in the evening visited by spirits of the security guard

who committed suicide. Not less scarier story inside the Faculty of law, almost every

floor of every room even had a story that made my hair stand, on the ground floor of

the building I heard someone who was new bathroom at midnight and two children

who were playing in place ablution, even had a security guard in the face with the

compound pocong II. Still on the first floor of the building I am a student told us that

she had seen firsthand creature who was half of the body in the form of a woman with

long hair. Up to the second floor of the first building, at night never happened lectures

unnatural, in the lecture room that contains the ghost who is doing the lecture, while

on the third floor of the old building there are ghost stories buto ijo.

There is a reason that is often said by people about the causes of why the Law Faculty

haunted, it is because the buildings of the Faculty of Law is above the high ground

and has the highest building in the other faculties.
