A Reading from the second Book of Maccabees (2 MC 7:1-2, 9-14)

It happened that seven brothers with their mother were arrested and tortured with whips and scourges

by the king, to force them to eat pork in violation of God's law. One of the brothers, speaking for the

others, said: “What do you expect to achieve by questioning us? We are ready to die rather than

transgress the laws of our ancestors.” At the point of death he said: “You accursed fiend, you are

depriving us of this present life, but the King of the world will raise us up to live again forever. It is

for his laws that we are dying.” After him the third suffered their cruel sport. He put out his tongue at

once when told to do so, and bravely held out his hands, as he spoke these noble words: “It was from

Heaven that I received these; for the sake of his laws I disdain them; from him I hope to receive them

again.” Even the king and his attendants marveled at the young man's courage, because he regarded

his sufferings as nothing. After he had died, they tortured and maltreated the fourth brother in the

same way. When he was near death, he said, “It is my choice to die at the hands of men with the

hope God gives of being raised up by him; but for you, there will be no resurrection to life.”

Lector: The Word of the Lord. People: Thanks be to God.

The Confiteor

I confess to almighty Godand to you, my brothers and sisters, that I have greatly sinnedin my thoughts and in my words,in what I have doneand in what I have failed to do, (And then striking your breast three times)through my fault, through my fault, through my most grievous fault;therefore, I ask blessed Mary ever-Virgin, all the Angels and Saints, and you, my brothers and sisters, to pray for me to the Lord our God. Priest: Lord have mercy. People: Lord have mercy.Priest: Christ have mercy. People: Christ have mercy.Priest: Lord have mercy. People: Lord have mercy.*

A Reading from the second Letter of St. Paul to Thessalonians (2 THES 2:16-3:5)

Brothers and sisters: May our Lord Jesus Christ himself and God our Father, who has loved us and

given us everlasting encouragement and good hope through his grace, encourage your hearts and

strengthen them in every good deed and word. Finally, brothers and sisters, pray for us, so that the

word of the Lord may speed forward and be glorified, as it did among you, and that we may be

delivered from perverse and wicked people, for not all have faith. But the Lord is faithful; he will

strengthen you and guard you from the evil one. We are confident of you in the Lord that what we

instruct you, you are doing and will continue to do. May the Lord direct your hearts to the love of

God and to the endurance of Christ.

Lector: The Word of the Lord. People: Thanks be to God.

A Reading from the Holy Gospel according to Luke (LK 20:27, 34-38)(The shorter Vatican approved version.)

People: Glory to you, O Lord.

Some Sadducees, those who deny that there is a resurrection, came forward.

Jesus said to them,

“The children of this age marry and remarry;

but those who are deemed worthy to attain to the coming age

and to the resurrection of the dead

neither marry nor are given in marriage.

They can no longer die, for they are like angels;

and they are the children of God

because they are the ones who will rise.

That the dead will rise even Moses made known in the passage about the bush,

when he called out ‘Lord,’

the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob;

and he is not God of the dead, but of the living, for to him all are alive.”

Priest: The Gospel of the Lord. People: Praise to You, Lord Jesus Christ.

The Responsorial: Lord, when your glory appears, my joy will be full. (PS 17:1, 5-6, 8, 15)

Lector: Alleluia People Only: Alleluia (Stand)

Lector Only: Jesus Christ is the firstborn of the dead; to him be glory and power, forever and ever.People Only: Alleluia

Priest: The Lord be with you. People: And with your spirit.

Creed

I believe in one God, the Father almighty,

Maker of heaven and earth,

of all things visible and invisible.

I believe in one Lord Jesus Christ,

the Only Begotten Son of God,

born of the Father before all ages.

God from God, Light from Light,

true God from true God,

begotten, not made,

consubstantial with the Father;

through Him all things were made.

For us men and for our salvation He came down

from heaven,

and by the Holy Spirit was Incarnate of the

Virgin Mary and became Man.

For our sake He was crucified under Pontius

Pilate,

He suffered death and was buried,

and rose again on the third day

in accordance with the Scriptures.

He ascended into heaven

and is seated at the right hand of the Father.

He will come again in glory to judge the living

and the dead and his kingdom will have no end.

I believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the Giver

of Life, who proceeds from the Father and the

Son,

Who with the Father and the Son is adored and

glorified, who has spoken through the prophets.

I believe in one, holy, catholic and apostolic

Church.

I confess one Baptism for the forgiveness of

sins and I look forward to the resurrection of

the dead and the life of the world to come.

Amen.

Priest: Pray, brethren, that my sacrifice and yours maybe acceptable to God, the almighty Father. (Peoplethen Stand)

People: May the Lord accept the sacrifice at your hands, for the praise and glory of his name, for our good andthe good of all his holy Church.

Priest: The Lord be with you.

People: And with your spirit.

Priest: Lift up your hearts.

People: We lift them up to the Lord.

Priest: Let us give thanks to the Lord our God.

who takes away the sins of the world. Blessed

are those called to the supper of the Lamb.

O God, Our Help in Ages Past

O God, our help in ages past,

Our hope for years to come,

Our shelter from the stormy blast,

And our eternal home.

Before the hills in order stood,

Or earth received her frame,

From everlasting Thou art God,

To endless years the same.

A thousand ages in Thy sight

Are like an evening gone;

Short as the watch that ends the night

Before the rising sun.

Time, like an ever-rolling stream,

Soon bears us all away;

We fly, forgotten, as a dream

Dies at the op’ning day.

Concluding

The Supper of the Lord

Refrain: Precious body, Precious Blood here in breadand wine. Here the Lord prepares the feast divine. Bread of Love is broken now; Cup of Life is poured. Come, share the Supper of the Lord.

1. This is the bread of God coming down fromheaven, giving life to us, to all the world.

2. "I am the living spring of eternal life; you that drink from me shall not thirst again."

3. "I am the bread of heaven giving life to you; you that eat this bread shall never die."

4. "All those who feed on me have their life in me, as I have my life in the living God."

The dedication of the Lateran Basilica. Today marks the dedication of Christianity’s first church and Catholic cathedral, St. John Lateran, by Pope Sylvester. It was donated by the Laterani family. It

was the first time in 300 years that Christians were legally allowed to have public worship. It is the mother church of all churches and the Cathedral of the diocese of Rome and since the Pope is also

the Bishop of Rome, this Cathedral, not St. Peter’s as some think, is the Pope’s Cathedral. The Popes lived there until the year 1309 when they moved into the Vatican as it had high walls for

protection around its 108 acres. St. Theodore, soldier and Martyr. ^ 304

12noon Mass and Mission Talk

7:30pm Evening Service and Talk

Our world today is one of stress, doubt and anxiety. Gurus, psychologists, counselors and

pseudo-experts all offer the promise of peace. The Franciscan Friars of Holy Name Province

believe that the peace many are searching for can be found in a unique opportunity: The

Franciscan Parish Mission. Their parish missions offer a sacred environment with guided

reflection to help the weary soul find rest and refreshment from the pressures of modern

living. And for decades, people have left their Parish Missions with a new perspective on

their personal and spiritual lives. This mission now comes locally to St. Peter’s Parish in the

beauty, serenity and familiarity that is Our Lady of the Rosary Chapel and its grounds.

This three day mission takes participants on a journey that seeks to awaken the realization of

God’s eternal love. Each afternoon at 12noon, Fr. Kevin will offer Mass with a homily. In the

evening the daily theme is further explored with a service that includes a homily, reflection

and group and private prayer. Fr. Kevin will explore such themes as violence in the world,

the hunger for peace, justice and healing the mystery of Jesus and the beauty of God’s love.

And it is through God’s love and powers of forgiveness that participants will be able to find

peace within themselves and the world around them.

- Page 12 -

“What else are the servants of God but God’s minstrels, whose work is to lift up

people’s hearts to spiritual joy that they might love God gladly.” -St. Francis of Assisi

Day One: “God’s Love in Jesus brings true Joy”

Monday, November 28th

12noon Mass and Mission Talk, 7:30pm Evening Service and Talk

In the face of violence and injustice it is indeed tempting to abandon our belief in a God of

Love. We proclaim that God does indeed hold each of us in a loving embrace which gives us

the strength to carry on, as well as the ability to reach out to all of those in need.

Day Two: “God’s Mercy Restores the Joy of Our Youth”

Tuesday, November 29th

12noon Mass and Mission Talk, 7:30pm Evening Service and Talk with Confessions

In a world that seeks to resolve conflict through retaliation, punishment and violence, we

proclaim a God who is merciful and forgiving. We reaffirm God’s intentions as He calls us to

be peacemakers by forgiving those who have wronged us and by accepting God’s gift of mercy

for ourselves. At the same time we must wrestle with the truth that real peace and

reconciliation cannot come about without justice. The Sacrament of Reconciliation will be

offered this night.

Day Three: “God’s Healing Brings New Hope”

Wednesday, November 30th

12noon Mass and Mission Talk, 7:30pm Evening Service and Talk

In spite of advances made in medicine and technology, suffering and sorrow still affect the

human heart. Be it sickness, injustice, or the violence that is so rampant in today’s world, we

proclaim that through the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ people of today will find

healing.

Mission PresenterFr. Kevin Cronin O.F.M. is a world renowned speaker and

author. He is a Franciscan priest who studied the classics at the

Franciscan St. Joseph’s Seraphic Seminary in Callicoon, New

York and then studied philosophy and theology at Catholic

University of America and Washington Theological Union.

Fr. Kevin gives retreats all over the United States as part of

the Franciscan Mission team. In his book, “Kenosis: Emptying

Self and the Path of Christian Service,” he tells of his

experiences of working with the poor and homeless in New

York City. He brings those experiences of life into his everyday

living and preaching.
