PRESIDENT’S REPORT

As president of the Poplar Estates Homeowners Association (PEHA), I would like to take this opportunity to welcome all residents to the Poplar Estates neighborhood. We live in a neighborhood with over 50 years of history and I look forward to learning more about the past, working in the present, and planning for the future. By the way, did you get a chance to participate in the 4th of July celebration this year? Did you notice all the young families? BBQ, fire truck, first responders, streaming water, lots of smiles and laughter...I was blessed and I’ve got to say we’ve got something special in Poplar Estates! It is our own little slice of Americana and only going to get better with the additions to Riverdale Elementary and Middle Schools in the Germantown Municipal School District. Make sure you put July 4th, 2017 and all PEHA events on your calendar for the New Year. We are excited and looking forward to the Harvest Festival, which is just around the corner (October 22, 2016). You don’t want to miss it! Chris Vanelli and his team have planned a family-fun event and I even hear the “Great Pumpkin” may make an appearance. PEHA is your Neighborhood Association, and as a Board (volunteers), we strive to bring quality programs, information and community events to our neighborhood families. We encourage everyone to join, get to know your neighbors, be involved and participate in the many family oriented events. All that is required to join PEHA is that you live in the Poplar Estates area and pay the membership dues of $25 per household. The annual dues support five family oriented events, five newsletters and fund maintenance for the front entrance as well as other neighborhood improvements. We hope that you will consider joining our association and participating in your community. Again, we look forward to meeting all 900 plus homeowners in our beautiful Poplar Estates neighborhood. Feel free to reach out to any of the PEHA board members. We want to hear your ideas to make this an even better neighborhood for you and your family.

BE A PART OF OUR NEIGHBORHOOD!

ANNUAL GARAGE SALE

A big Thank You goes out to everyone who participated and all the volunteers who worked so hard to make the Annual Garage Sale (October 1) successful again this year! If you have any suggestions and would like to be involved in the planning for this annual event, contract Toni Summers ([email protected]).

POPLAR ESTATES BUNCO GROUP

Ladies...if you looking to make more friends in the neighborhood, then the Poplar Estates Bunco Group might be just the ticket. A dozen women gather monthly (last Tuesday of the month) for a evening of chatting, laughing, eating and rolling dice. There are always circumstances that prevent regulars from attending every month, so we are looking to add more members and/or substitutes to our list. Everyone brings something to share—appetizers, desserts, and/or libations plus your ante of $20. There are prizes for the luckiest draw of the score sheet, the most buncos and the most losses. This group is chaired by Toni Summers and we communicate through our private Facebook page—Poplar Estates Bunco Group. If you are interested in becoming a member or sub for this group, please contact Toni Summers ([email protected]). POPLAR ESTATES GARDEN CLUB

The October meeting of the Garden Club will be held at the home of Paula Sander, 1887 Camberley Circle, on October 10 at 7 p.m. The speaker is Wes Hopper from Urban Forestry and his topic is “What Lies Beneath”. The November meeting will be at the home of Martha Garner, 1791 Brookside Drive, and Master Gardener, Joanne Watson, will teach us how to attract the Eastern Bluebird. Annual dues to join the garden club are $20 and meetings are held in members’ homes on the second Tuesday of each month. For more information, please contact Chris Kelyman at 901-755-4708.

FRONT ENTRANCE

Do you like to decorate? We would love your help! We will be setting up the holiday decorations for our main neighborhood entrance on November 26th. Please come to the front entrance (Poplar and Poplar Estates Parkway) at 9 AM and help put up a display that will make our neighborhood proud. It is time that we won first place for the best entrance display in Germantown again! It is a lot of fun and usually only takes about two hours. We would appreciate your support! Also mark your calendars for January 7th at 9 AM to help take down and store the Front Entrance decorations. Hope to see there!

HOLIDAY LIGHTING CONTEST

The Poplar Estates Garden Club will once again be the judges for the neighborhood holiday lighting and decorations for two categories – overall and front door decorations. Each winner will receive $50 and have their photos posted on our website and in the January newsletter. Look for details on the dates for judging in our December newsletter.

DECEMBER MEMBERSHIP MEETING AND HOLIDAY PARTY

Mark your calendar for Saturday, December 10 at 6:00 PM to attend the December Membership Meeting and Holiday Party. The planning activities are in progress by the Social Committee for a delicious holiday menu and some great entertainment...more details will be provided as the date gets closer. This will be a fun family event and a great evening for all ages.
