The cardinal electors meet in the Vatican’s Paul VI Hall to Prepare the Conclave
Following the death or resignation of the pope, the See of Peter is vacant. The cardinal electors(under 80 years of Age) are invited to the Vatican
On the morning of this day, the cardinal electors will gather in the Basilica of St. Peter to attend the Solemn Mass for the election of the Pope
The cardinal electors set the start date of the Conclave and will stay at the Domus Sanctae Marthae. The Sistine Chapel is closed to the public and prepared.
The cardinal electors are transferred in solemn procession from the Basilica of St. Peter to the Sistine Chapel singing “Veni Creator Spiritus” to invoke the coming of the Holy Spirit. The Cardinal Dean swears voters to preserve the secrecy of the conclave
On the first day there is a single vote. Failure to reach the two thirds vote necessary leads to successive days with upto 4 votes per day. If no pope is chosen by the end of the third day, voting pauses for one day. After the white smoke, the
C a r d i n a l P r o t o d e a c o n announces the new pope’s name from the central balcony of St. Peter’s Basilica. The elected Pontiff then greets the pilgrims in St. Peter’s Square and delivers his first Urbi et Orbi blessing
After each session of scrutiny (2 Votes) the ballots and the notes are given to the tellers to burn. If there is no choice, then black smoke will come from the chimney on the roof of the Sistine Chapel. If a pope is elected and he accepts the responsibility, a chemical is added to the burning ballots to make the smoke white. The White smoke will signal to the pilgrims in St. Peter’s Square that a new pope has been elected.

During the 1520s, St Ignatius Loyola began writing about the emotions that took hold of him while contemplating the scriptures. Still used today, his Spiritual Exercises is the compilation of meditations, prayers and other contemplative practices.
The spiritual path laid out by Ignatius is a way of discerning God’s presence in our everyday lives_ and doing something about it. This essence of spirituality is what inspires Jesuits to serve where needs are greatest- from underserved neighbourhoods in East Los Angeles to schools in Micronesia
The Society of Jesuits is the largest order of priests and brothers in the Catholic Church, with almost 17,000 members serving in 12 countries
Pope Francis who entered Jesuits as a novice in 1958 and was ordained a priest in 1969, is the first Jesuits to be elected Pope. After his election to the papacy, Pope Francis said “I feel I’m a Jesuit in my spirituality, I still think like a Jesuit.
The Society of Jesus serves the Catholic Church for the greater glory of God
The Abbreviation A.M.D.G frequently appears in Jesuits art and publications. It stands for the Latin phrase “Ad majorem Dei gloriam”-for the greater glory of God _ an unofficial motto of the Jesuits
One of the founding principles of the Society of Jesus was “the education of children and unlettered persons” The Jesuits established their first school in 1548. Today, the Jesuits run over 2,300 schools in 67 countries. Georgetown University, founded in 1789, is the oldest Jesuit school in the US. Cristo Rey Jesuits High School Milwaukee opens in 2015
Jesuits have always been known for their commitment to social justice and their care for those who live at the margins of society. They advocate for immigration reform, domestic poverty relief and reform of the justice system.

10 of Pope Francis Provocative Quotes
Hatred is not to be carried in the name of
God! War is not to be waged in the name
of God!
Do you open your hearts to the memories that
your grandparents pass on? Grandparents are like the wisdom of the family, they are
the wisdom of a people.
Women in the church are more
important than bishops and priests.
Some think, excuse me if I use the word, that
in order to be good Catholics, we have to be
like rabbits — but no.
I see clearly that the thing the church needs most
today is the ability to heal wounds and to warm the hearts of the faithful
... I see the church as a field hospital after battle.

I believe in God, not in a Catholic God, there is
no Catholic God, there is God and I believe in Jesus
Christ, his incarnation.
True love is both loving and letting oneself
be loved. It is harder to let ourselves be loved than it is
to love.
Perhaps you were mad, perhaps plates flew,
but please remember this: never let the sun go down without making peace!
Never, never, never!
Men and women are sacrificed to the idols of profit
and consumption: it is the 'culture of waste.' If a computer breaks it is a
tragedy, but poverty, the needs and dramas of so many people end up
being considered normal.
Instead of being just a church that welcomes and
receives by keeping the doors open, let us try also to be a church
that finds new roads ... to those who have quit or are indifferent.
