WORLD NEWS

Joke of t he WeekWho walks back and forth screaming one minute, then sits down weeping uncontrollably the next?

Jerry Jones, The owner of the Dallas Cowboys

Senior of the week

Kyrah Hytche is involved in Cheerleading, Track, STUCO, and NHS.

When asked how she wants to be remembered at Porter Schools she said,

" I want to be remembered as the person who was kind to everyone and worked hard in everything I do inside

and outside of school." After she graduates, Kyrah plans to attend college

and further her education and study radiology to become an X-ray

Technician.

Hats like these have become very popular this winter. Although they may be warm, these hats should not even exist. The fuzzy material, and the twist tie front do absolutely nothing for the fashion industry. Please try another kind of winter head gear before picking out one of these hideous hats.

Martin Luther King Day is a federal holiday held on the third Monday of January. It celebrates the life and achievements of Martin Luther King Jr., an influential American civil rights leader. He is most well-known for his campaigns to end racial segregation on public transport and for racial equality in the United States. ~ source timeanddate.com

January 21st, 2019 will be the third Monday that is marked to celebrate the life and accomplishments of Martin Luther King Jr. Our calendars mark days we have recognized to commemorate some of the great leaders of our country that have accomplished many of the freedoms we enjoy as Americans. However, sadly it seems we take these days for granted as just another day to be out of school or a day off from work. Leaders such as Martin Luther King Jr., 1st President George Washington, 16th President Abraham Lincoln, Founding Father Benjamin Franklin, just to name a few, paved the way for us to live life freely and with endless resources at our fingertips.

Challenge yourself to do some research on those that are named above, along with the many others that are historical leaders in America. Take the time to reflect on what has been done to allow us to be where we are today and why we celebrate those days out of school or off of work. You might be surprised how much more you will learn about that person and the others that aren't as readily recognized. "It 's worth a Google."

What is Pirat e Life? By: Liz Brewer

I found this excerpt on a website that sales coffee, no less. Anyone that knows me, knows how much I love my coffee!

Fitness and nutrition are another huge factor in mine and my families lives. This particular company promotes healthy living, along with exceptional coffee, and uses the "Pirate Life" as their motto. Below is a quote at the end of their homepage and I feel

this could be applied to all of us as individuals and as Porter Pirates.
