Foreword
Manu3 is a portable hand measurement instrument. Its intended use is to measure the
required dimensions to select or manufacture gloves or cosmetic covers.
This manual covers the use of the M3M measurement software. For more information on the
unit use and installation, consult the Manu3 User Manual.
Product Description
Manu3 is a hand measurement system composed of a portable unit and a USB key with
the M3M measurement software and installation package.
The portable unit can capture, store and export through a USB port images taken of a
person’s hand. The M3C software pre-installed on all Manu3 units tags the images with a
unique id number. The measurement software, M3M, facilitates the selection of all relevant
points for measuring lengths and circumferences of the hand. The results can be visualized as
reports and exported as odt or cvs report files.

Measuring hand dimensions with M3M
1. Launch the M3M.exe application from the start menu of your computer:
Notice the STATUS BOX, at
the bottom of the window.
This contextual message box
gives current status and
expected next action at any
given moment.
2. The system is set to use a default measurement template. If needed, load a different
measurement template using the Options menu in the main toolbar at the top of the
window.
3. Click on Load file and choose the image for which you want to extract measurements.
4. Choose which dimensions to measure using the right
panel menu. Templates measurements are listed at
the bottom right. Custom circumferences and lengths
can also be measured.

5. Template measurements:
Click on Measure or Auto-Chain (to measure all lengths subsequently). The following
instructions are for the default template. If using another template, refer to this template’s
instructions. For accurate results, follow these tips and refer to the Template Reference
Figure:
Start by measuring finger lengths from thumb (1) to little finger (5):
a. Click on the tip of the finger1, in the middle.
b. Draw a line (green) following the axis of the finger, splitting it down the middle.
c. Using the red line, click on the end point of the finger defined as follows:
i. For the thumb, index and little finger; the line goes from the outside edge of
the finger to the lowest point of the interdigital space.
ii. For the middle and ring finger; the line should be place between the lowest
points of the interdigital spaces on each side of the finger.
1 If the nails are long, deactivate the « edge detect » function. Position the cursor where the tip of the finger is located, under the nail.

Once the finger lengths are measured, M3M should automatically calculate circumferences. In
the default template, circumference of the finger is measured at each joint. There are two
measurements for the thumb (A and B) and three measurements for the fingers (from C to N).
If necessary, manually position circumferences lines of finger joints (A-N):
a. Circumference lines should be perpendicular to the side of the fingers.
b. The lines should be place at the widest part of the finger joints
c. Lines closest to the hand should be positioned before the slope leading to the
interdigital space.
Next, measure the circumference for the back of the hand (O):
o This line should be placed over the knuckles linking index to the little finger
The last measurement is the circumference of the wrist (P):
o This line should be placed at the thinnest part of the wrist, after the ulnar head and
should be perpendicular to the forearm.
