The SmithLight Industrial is available in 3 models with battery run times from 12 to 24 hours (depending on model) and can be easily charged from either 100/110/240V, 50/60Hz AC power supply or 12 / 24 V DC from most vehicles.

LIFTINGA normal air-fi lled tube is raised in two stages: 1st infl ation is completed on the ground. 2nd Once you reach pressure, the tube can be lifted with the manual help of the operator. The problems related to this system are: diffi culty of infl ation in critical situations and need for an operator to push upwards. Any weights on the top create moments of creasing at the centre of the tube and diffi culty in setting it up.
EIL Controlled elevation system (CES). The extension of the bearing structure of the EIL tower takes place vertically in stages, thanks to partitioned areas with holes of varying diameters. This creates a differential pressure between the various sectors and the extension of the vertical structure. The second advantage of the system regards the reduced lever arms L1, L2 and L3 which allow moments favorable to lifting the weight (P). The system also allows one to reach very high operating heights.

LOWERINGThe problem with lowering an infl atable tube is that a reduction of internal pressure causes the base to give, and the structure to fall, with a very long lever arm and consequent probable damage to the light source. The lowering of the structure therefore requires the presence of an operator.
With a further patent, a controlled lowering system (CLS) has been introduced in the EIL structure. This system creates a «give» point at half-height through a rubber band fi ttingly tightened in relation to levels of internal pressure and the height of the structure. The rubber band’s action also creates an effect slowing down the speed of internal pressure reduction; the top of the structure thus comes to rest on the ground gently. The adoption of this system has led to a 70% reduction of cracks in the lighting sources.

The lumen is one of the most misunderstood and most misquoted values used in describing light output. A lumen is simply a measure of total visible light energy (luminous-fl ux) produced by a light source, and as such, does not consider the area over which it might be spread. Said another way, it is a measurement of the energy emitted by the bulb or LED that the eye can actually see. So, it is very similar to a watt. Like a watt, it is also independent of distance. A 100 lumen bulb is a 100 lumen bulb at ten metres or ten kilometres.You don’t measure lumens with a simple light meter. If you are using a light meter you are measuring the illumination level, but not lumens. The typical light meter is measuring lux, which is a measure of lumen-density, (i.e. luminous fl ux falling on a given area) but not lumens. Two bulbs with the same number of lumens can have very different illumination level readings. A bulb with a narrow beam focus will measure much higher lux in the centre of the beam than its wider-angle counterpart. This is because lux is a measurement of just lumen density, but not total lumens.To measure the Lumen output of a light we use an “Integrating Sphere”, this is a large sphere that is coated inside with a special refl ective coating that creates a uniform luminance to all points on the sphere. A detector located behind a baffl e then measures a known percentage of the luminance and a total output is calculated.The Integrating Sphere is perfect for measuring an isotropic light source as this is one that emits light in every direction at the same intensity; unfortunately in comparison no light source is truly isotropic. Most if not all will have variations in intensity at different angles and spots where the light is blocked by the body of the lamp. Most LED lights only emit in the forward direction with beams from a spot to a fl ood. This means that you will see large differences in the measured fl ux depending on the direction of the lamp being tested. In order to gain the true light output auxiliary correction is required and the bigger the light is the more the hardware starts to absorb some of the light given out. To do this an auxiliary lamp is mounted inside the sphere and the light output measured with the light being tested switched off and measured again when the light to being tested is switched on. The difference in outputs allows you to calculate the degree of self-absorption by the light. This fi gure is then applied as a scaling factor when calculating the lights output. The overall effect is to correct the absorption errors that arise from the lights body inside the sphere.
