PORTAE JOHN PAUL 2012-2013 THE WEEKLY NEWSLETTER FOR Door of the week: Do you know these? •••• UPDATES FOR 10 JANUARY 2013 •••• MANDATORY MONTHLY PARENT MEETING: Monday, 14 January 2013, 6:45 p.m. The January 2013 monthly parent meeting will be a great way for us all to get on top of the new semester, and all of the events and deadlines and instructions for the next five months. We will have packets printed for all, and some time for socializing from 6:45-7:00. At 7 p.m., we will start with prayer, and will conclude within 55 minutes. Thanks for making this a priority and sending at least one parent from each family. We will present each parent with a Blue & Gold Pass to be used on an upcoming Friday for each family in attendance. CATHOLIC LIFE RAFFLE: Remember that the Catholic Life Raffle continues through the end of the first week of January classes (to Friday, 11 January 2013). We count on this revenue as a part of our operating budget. We hope that all of found their opportunities over the Christmas break to sell tickets. ••••••• The committee has arranged with Catholic Life to be able to turn in tickets on Monday afternoon 14 January 2013. SO, if you are one of the 42 families that have not sold any tickets and/or have not returned tickets, this is one last chance to sell this weekend and get those tickets into the drawing. ••••••••• KNIGHT WITH THE SEMINARIANS: Every year, our school supports the Knights of Columbus Council 4181 in New Braunfels and their special event, Knight with the Seminarians. At that Saturday evening dinner event, the Council raises funds for five area seminaries and honors all seminarians at the dinner. Our school has been serving and helping at the dinner for the last three years and will continue this tradition in perpetuity! This year, the event has been moved up one month due to a scheduling conflict. It will be held on Saturday, 26 January 2013, starting with Mass at 5 p.m. at Sts. Peter & Paul Church, followed by dinner at 6:15 p.m. at the Knights Hall in New Braunfels. Here is what we need: All freshmen, sophomores, and juniors are asked to serve that evening as servers. They will report to the Knights Hall at 4:30 p.m., receive brief training in what is needed, etiquette, and procedure, a pizza meal, and then serving and clearing work until 9 p.m. Servers need to wear white button –up collared shirts, and black pants. • Note two more parts of the evening: Our choir will be singing and playing at the Sts. Peter & Paul 5 p.m. Mass that day, and will be performing a few numbers at the dinner itself. Dr. Kenney will have more information for choir families. Secondly, a generous donor has purchased two tables for the Class of 2013. Seniors will all have a seat at the dinner, and will be recognized that evening at the dinner. (This is a tradition the school will continue each year, seniors get to attend as guests!) Seniors are asked to make every effort to attend. CASINO NIGHT: Save the date: Student Casino Night and Dance, Saturday, 2 Feb., 7 p.m.@JPII PARENTS DAY: Save the morning: Pastries with Parents – Monday, 28 Jan., 8 a.m. EQUESTRIAN CLUB: The Equestrian Club will have their next meeting on Tuesday, January 22nd during afternoon 8 th period study hall.
