An Introduction
Porter and Woodman was originally launched in 1982 as a wine shipper and wholesaler.
Over the next 20 years the company developed into a hamper, wine and gift company.
A separate packing and packaging operation for the manufacturing of wooden presentation boxes was also
founded.
In 2001 the company was re-established under just one entity - Porter and Woodman Gifts Ltd.
In 2004 a separate Design and Print division was introduced to help develop the growing demand for printed
packaging and gifts.
In 2008 we developed an online presence for wooden signage under the name
Chalkboards UK and from a start-up this business now turns over in excess of £1m.
Stourbridge Through and Through
The company first moved to warehouse premises on Enville Street in 1990 and
transferred to the current Mill Race Lane site in 1995.
Being close to the town centre offers many advantages - employees can use
the excellent public transport facilities as well as the local shops - both of which are currently
being transformed beyond recognition.
We have long-standing relationships with local colleges and have a large potential workforce on our doorstep.
Our People
We are proud to promote our ‘Made in
Stourbridge’ credentials, which extend to the
workforce, many of whom were born and
bred here.
Earlier this year we took on our 40th
employee making us one of the larger
employers in the DY8 area. We have recently
taken on our 6th new employee this year.
Jobs vary from woodshop apprentice to IT
and social media specialists.
All our employees are local to us - an intricate
web of family connections throughout the
workforce bring a new meaning to the phrase ‘family firm’!

Through imaginative marketing and diverse products we have been able to grow the Porter and Woodman
businesses in what are clearly demanding times.
Sales to date this year are 22% ahead of where they were 12 months ago.
Based on the current mix of businesses we hope to continue this trend and remain an important force in the local
community.
