ABOUT THE ARTISTS

Page 23: PORTER LORING -WEST ART COLLECTION

Maurine Zook

Maurine Zook is a Texas artist with a diverse talent in many mediums. She works in oil on canvas as well as watercolor. She creates the most beautiful watercolor collages using torn paper, these collages offer a depth and dimension to the softness of the watercolor medium. An avid gardener she often selects lush gardens and flowers as her subject matter. Her work is done with a delicate hand which interprets the scene with a soft impressionist style. The watercolor collages are light and airy, contemporary in design. The oils especially have a patina that suggests age even in a new work.

Zook received her art education from California State at Long Beach, The University of Kansas at Pittsburgh as well as the University of Texas at Arlington. A diverse painter showing in numerous galleries around the United States.

P.T. Tiersky

Born in a small, farming community in Illinois, P.T.’s growing up years were spent immersed in the elements of nature. After graduating from college in Iowa, a move to Minneapolis is where a love for artistic endeavors first emerged. As a hobby, the future artist started mixing artistic papers, paint and a variety of textural mediums.

Through a job promotion, P.T. moved to Southern California. After a successful business career, the artist is devoting full-time attention to the first love of mixing mediums to create bold and harmonious two and three dimensional constructions.

Collections of the artist’s work can be found in galleries in San Antonio, Los Angeles, Chicago, Fort Myers, Houston, Cincinnati, Cleveland, Dallas, New York, Raleigh, Charlotte, Omaha, Atlanta and Singapore.

Tim McFadden

A Baltimore native, Tim McFadden, found his love for blowing glass in 2001 while attending Salisbury University on Maryland’s Eastern Shore.

Tim’s work is strongly founded on Italian techniques that he has studied and developed at some of the most reputable glass schools in the country, most notably the Corning Museum of Glass and Pilchuck Glass School. His work is sold internationally and has been exhibited in some of the top galleries and museums across the country.

Today, you can find Tim in his glassblowing gallery with his wife, Rose and their two young boys. McFadden Art Glass truly is a family affair. In fact, you will find Mom and Dad, assisting in the studio and invariably one of Tim’s three other siblings or extended family there to support his success.

Jorge Garza

Jorge Garza is a well-known San Antonio artist. His calm and serene oils, pastels and watercolors reflect the beautiful, rhythmic and powerful forces of nature. His paintings convey a thorough knowledge of the color, light and texture of the Southwest landscape. Although created in the studio, his work has a spontaneous feel. Jorge’s images are representational but begin with an abstract approach, slowly developing a soothing, contemplative mood that evokes a sense of tranquility and quiet strength.

The rhythmic and powerful forces of nature, as well as personal spiritual reflection, are the experiences that guide Jorge’s art.  As a visual artist he creates assemblages. The direction his art has taken has emerged from his Hispanic background, Catholic upbringing and extensive travel. In his assemblages he uses found objects, religious articles, such as milagros, antique crucifixes, and retablos, as well as hand cut metal shapes. These are combined with painted surfaces that are textured and layered with many coats of acrylic paint utilizing the colors of Mexico and the Southwest. The assemblages are two and three-dimensional symbolic statements.

Being a native Texan has influenced Garza’s landscape paintings and assemblages. His strong Hispanic culture and Southwestern lifestyle are evident in his life as well as in his art.

Garza attended the University of Texas at Austin and received a BFA in art education in 1973. After teaching in public schools in Austin and San Antonio for 33 years, his many years of teaching art has allowed him to explore many different art forms.

Traveling in the United States, Mexico, and Europe has influenced his focus on representational and abstract landscapes. The themes in his collages are derived from a  personal search for spirituality.

Laura Zachry

Laura is an art photographer based in San Antonio. She loves nature

photography and is especially drawn to creating abstract work from lines and

pattern often found in our natural world. A lover of bright color, she is also

known for changing the palette in post-production – who says a cactus can’t

be turquoise? Her work makes simple items appear dramatic and intriguing.

Juan Santillan

Juan’s humble portfolio includes an array of images from landscapes and backroads to the Texas Coastal Bend. Many of these images are from his hometown, San Antonio, but also include some from the Texas Hill Country on over to Louisiana and points in between.

Juan’s lifelong passion for photography came from being mesmerized by the many black and white images he saw in his grandparent’s home. It was later refueled when he and his wife had their first child. Seven children later, he has perfected his craft, which now includes his three grandchildren. He hopes to pass down his love for still images to them!

Bob Howen

Bob’s portfolio includes a variety of landscape, seascape, lifestyle and nature images. These have been gathered during 125,000 miles of motorhome travel adventures with his wife Judy.

Howen’s lifelong passion for photography was re-fueled with the introduction of digital capture, processing and printing. These powerful technologies allow photographers to control the entire process and obtain the exact image they originally visualized. The images are captured with HDR Nikon equipment and printed on Epson professional papers and canvas using the Gilcee printing process.

Having lived in San Antonio for over 30 years, Bob has always been fascinated with the Riverwalk and the lovely Spanish missions. The Howen’s are avid travelers and Bob captures beautiful images from all over the world.

Bob is also a retired Air Force Lt. Colonel and was the Chief Statistician for the NBA San Antonio Spurs for many years.

Art Incorporated has represented Bob since 2005.
