IMPLEMENTATION OF INTEGRATED RENEWABLE ENERGY SYSTEMS IN RURAL AREAS CASE STUDY SOCIAL HOUSING DESIGN IN SAN GIORGIO, PIACENTINO.

Amr Farouk,Master of Science in Sustainable Architecture For Large Scale Projects and Urban Design.

Yanyan Lin,Master of Science in Sustainable Architecture For Large Scale Projects and Urban Design.

Thesis Supervisor Albini Marco

ABSTRACTProposing an environmental innovative urban design linking the renewable energy systems in rural area with the cultural adaptability, this thesis addresses the present day housing deficit and lack of architectural and urban identity in San Giorgio, Piacentino, Italy. The housing grammar incorporates customization that creates housing units specific to a family’s needs, incorporating cultural aspects such as courtyards into the design, and simultaneously allows for the creation of a diverse urban fabric.

Energy efficiency Design it rightSan Giorgio Energy Design Guidelines for buildings have enabled higher energy efficiency at a minimal construction cost premium. Both passive and active systems and strategies help reduce power demand. This includes a high-performance building envelope, a low ratio of windows to walls, daylighting and advanced lighting controls cut   energy demand for lights.

Junctions CRITERIA

Steel frame buildings consist of a number of different types of structural elements, each of which has to be properly attached to the neighboring parts of the structure. This will involve the use of several forms of connection. The main classes of connection are :i) Where a change of direction occurs, e.g. beam-to-column connections and beam-to-beam connections) To ensure manageable sizes of steelwork for transportation and erection e.g. columns are normally spliced every two or three stories .iii) Where a change of component occurs, including connection of the steelwork to other parts of the building, e.g. column bases, connections to concrete cores and connections with walls, floors and roofs.

The design is inspired by the Mediterranean market in its energy and life. The visitors get overwhelmed by the openness and flexibility of the middle space, which uplift the whole Mediterranean mood. Il progetto si ispira al mercato Mediterraneo e alla suona energia e vitalità. I visitatori sono sommersi dall’ampiezza e flessi-bilità dello spazio centrale che incarna l’intero spirito Mediterraneo.
