Adventure Science Center: Sky & Space Addition – Nashville, TN

PROJECT INFORMATION: The Adventure Science Center closed its existing Sudekum planetarium in early 2007 to begin demolition for the new 30,000 square foot Sky and Space addition. The initial phase reopened in the summer of 2008 and the remaining portions opened in 2009. This addition included a six-sided metal pyramid wrapped in Berridge’s Natural White Bermuda roof panels on the 14:12 slope. Sitting above a new 63 -foot planetarium dome and rising almost 90-feet into the sky, this feature lights up the Nashville skyline at night with alternating colored LED lights washing up the sides.

DETAIL: Interlacing hip caps march up the sides of the pyramid. White PVC roofing reflects the sunlight offering cooler rooftop temperatures and reduced cooling cost inside the building. Additional sheet metal work includes 24 ga copings, gutter system, counter flashings and scuppers.
