Artist Statement
The output of my artistic practice is eclectic; in addition to taking photographs and writing experimental texts, I make ephemera, imaginary books and the occasional sculpture. What ties many of these works together is my interest in language and in the waywardly poetic quali-ties of everyday life.
My works are part of a self-styled continuum where one end is occupied by the three-dimensional object that has agency, while the other consists of the linguistic ‘object’ that can be held in the mind. The materials I use are often those that are immediately to hand, such as foodstuffs or soap. Varying widely, these materials can influence the making process, as well as the ideas behind the work, in unexpected ways. This is important to me, I want the artworks and what they consist of, to both amplify and contradict one another.
Uncertainty and ambiguity are constructive devices in my practice, through them I create new associative pos-sibilities which emphasise the overlooked. Ultimately, my artworks are the result of playful investigations. Through making, I’m simultaneously questioning and discovering what an artwork can be and how it operates when it en-ters into the wider world.
