 His story

Marty accepted Christ as his personal Lord and Savior at a Promise Keepers rally in

1997. God had been working in his life for two years previous through Sara and herparents’ expression of unconditional love.

At the rally, Tony Evans was speaking from John 13 about Jesus washing His disciples’

feet as an act of love. Sara’s father, Dennis, cried while he washed Marty’s feet with his

drinking water to express God’s love. Dennis told Marty that he loved him as a son,

and it was through this expression of love and tears that Marty knew of God’s

unconditional love for him. God has continued since to mature and equip both Marty

and Sara to serve Him. It is because of this unconditional love from Christ that they

are passionate to share with “every nation, tribe, language, and people” (Revelation

14:6).

Her story

Sara’s interest in missions began throughout her childhood. She was born while her

parents were in the membership process with Wycliffe. Sara has been a missionary kid

her entire life, and has always known of the power of the written Word and of the need

to reach those throughout the world without access to it.

 Their story

It was sometime between the birth of Miriam and Jade that the Lord called Marty and

Sara to serve Him together through missions. For over five years they fought with their

calling. However, it was in December of 2008 that God used drastic measures to get

their attention. Marty was injured and was forced out of work for 14 months. Throughthese challenges, God revealed to them that He was their only provision. They sought

how the Lord would use their family. By the God’s strength and provision and for His

glory, He has brought them to this place to serve Him in this way with Wycliffe Bible

 Translators.

 Heart Language

You may recognize a few English words in this verse from the Tok Pisin trade

language of Papua New Guinea, but do these words speak to your heart? The

words of John 3:16 speak the ultimate truth of the Christian faith, but if the

words are foreign to you how can you develop a personal relationship with Jesus

Christ?

Marty and Sara share the Wycliffe vision that God's Word should be accessible to

all people in a language that speaks to their heart. This vision is that every man,

woman, and child should know that “God so loved the world, that He gave His

one and only Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal

life” (John 3:16 NIV).

Believe

Wycliffe professes the Word it proclaims. Relying on God and rooted in His Word,

Wycliffe seeks to bear fruit among new believers who also become rooted in God's

Word. Marty and Sara stand behind these statements by Wycliffe:

The Bible is God's message for people everywhere

The message of the Bible is evangelistic and is the basis for church planting and

growth

The most effective means of communication is the mother tongue

For a church to be truly indigenous, it must have the Bible in its mother tongue

Bible translation is the task of the whole Church, and everyone can have a part

 Vision

The mission of Wycliffe Bible Translators is to see a Bible translation program in

progress in every language still needing one by 2025.

Passion

Each person who participates in the Bible translation movement has been created by

God, gifted by God, and called by God. Although Wycliffe is formed from a diversecommunity they are driven by a single passion: The glory of God through the

translation of the Word for every person on earth in the language they understand

best.

 The need

There are almost 7000 languages in the world. Of those language groups over

2000 do not have ONE written word of Scripture in their heart language, the

language that they best understand. Those 2000 language groups represent more

than 340 million people scattered throughout the world that cannot come to a

personal understanding of who God is without the Bible translated into words

that they understand.

 Their Part

Marty

Marty’s participation in supporting Bible translation is through automotive

mechanics. In Papua New Guinea he will help to service and maintain

approximately 200 vehicles within the mission community. He will also seek

opportunities to mentor a team of Papua New Guinean men in the auto shop.

Marty’s position will not only provide direct discipleship within the local

community, but also to the students of the Ukarumpa International School

Secondary Campus through work-study programs. Marty’s position will allow

other support staff and translation teams to focus on their work. His work will

expedite the Bible translation process in Papua New Guinea.

Sara

Sara’s main role will lie in providing stability for the children and support for

Marty. The transitioning time will be critical for the emotional, spiritual, and

physical health of the family. Sara’s place in the home as wife and mother will

be vital to the family’s ministry with Wycliffe Bible Translators.

The first assignment is Partnership Development

Marty and Sara’s future ministry with Wycliffe will be serving in Papua New

Guinea. However their ministry here in America has already begun. Until they are

in Papua New Guinea their ministry is to help raise awareness in the church on

behalf of the Bibleless peoples. They are so excited about this time of partnership

building! They anticipate great opportunities in Papua New Guinea, but they also

know that the Lord has a purpose for them in the U.S. now.

 Available for you

Marty and Sara are passionate in telling others about the need for Bible

translation. They want to help you learn about world missions, and how you can

become involved in what God is doing around the world. They would love theopportunity to share with you what they are learning! Marty and Sara can speak at

your church, Sunday school, small group sessions, home meetings, children’s

programs… there are so many ways that they can be available to serve you!

 Your involvement opportunities

There are many ways that you can partner with Marty and Sara in their ministry with

Wycliffe. They would like to invite you to be a part of our team by praying,

encouraging, and/or giving financially. They are called to go, but know that there are

those of you that are called to stay at home. Marty and Sara would like to ask you to

consider a number of ways that you can involved in Bible translation with their family.

Prayer

Marty and Sara need your prayers! Prayer will be the backbone of their ministry. They

believe the prayers of the church body are essential and would not think of leaving

without them. May they ask you to be their prayer partners and pray for their family on

a regular basis?

Financial Partners

Marty and Sara also need people who can be financial partners with them. Wycliffe is a

faith mission which means that all its members rely on God to supply their needs

through interested individuals and churches like you. They will only be able to serve in

Papua New Guinea when they are receiving 100% of the budget Wycliffe has set forthem. The people in Papua New Guinea do not have the resources to pay the Dirggers

to come and help them, but maybe you can help Marty and Sara go to them.

Encouragers

Marty and Sara are in also need of people like you to come beside them and encourage

them in their work. They are engaged in a spiritual battle and will get

tired! They will need a solid team of people to keep regular contact

with them through practical means like phone calls, email, and care

packages.

Frequently Asked Questions:

Financial Partnership Are gifts tax deductible?

Definitely! All financial gifts given to Wycliffe are tax deductible. However, please

make sure not to include Marty and Sara’s names or account number on the check,

but instead include this information on a separate note.

 What about a receipt?

Wycliffe will send a receipt directly to each partner. This is usually sent to the

address on the check. A convenient form for a future gift and a free copy of In

Focus , a donor newsletter, will also be included with the receipt.

 Write a check? Donate online?

Wycliffe offers multiple ways to donate. To give online follow this link (http://

www.wycliffe.org/Partnership.aspx?mid=6DB362) and use a credit card or an

Electronic Funds Transfer (EFT). The EFT is an optional service that authorizes

Wycliffe to deduct gifts automatically from a checking or savings account. EFT

saves time and money, avoiding postage and check costs and ensuring checks won't

be delayed or lost in the mail. It also helps Wycliffe achieve better stewardship of gifts by reducing processing time and costs.

 Where does the money go?

All Wycliffe members are funded by the gifts of their partnership teams. Of the

money sent to Wycliffe in support of the Driggers family, ninety percent is directed

to pay their taxes, health insurance, retirement, tuition costs for their daughters,

ministry and living expenses. The remaining ten percent is shared between Wycliffe

USA and their overseas entity. These funds are used to pay administration and

operation services that help Wycliffe members continue their work.

Marty and Sara would be glad to try to answer any other questions you may have. Thank you!
