PROJECT ANALYSIS

Horizontal and vertical louvers are conventionally used on south and east/west facades respectively to shade from direct sunlight.

The problem was the final reading od the facade, which turned out as that of stacked floors instead of a large homogeneous volume.

This is when the experimentation became focused on a module-based facade. Our aim was to come up with a module that provides optimal sun shading as well as a homogenous reading to the facade

PROJECT ANALYSISSUN LOUVERS STUDY

On the two main facades oriented south, the modules are used horizontally to keep away the sun during noon and early afternoon. At the same time, the louvers orient the users’ view towards the city and the street level.

On the Eastern facade of the west block, the louvers are used vertically to protect from the low sun during the morning hours. Looking from the other block towards this facade, one sees a dynamic facade of modules, but is not allowed visual access to the offices beyond. The modules also orient the view to the city scape.

The eastern facade of the East block is already shaded by the neighboring building currently under construction. Therefore, the louvers here serve not the purpose of sun protection but of ensuring privacy from the building across the street, as well as orienting the view.

On the northern facade, we choose to take full advantage of the northern light. No direct sunlight enters the building here, but rather diffused daylight that is optimal for a worrking environment.
