Building technology and sustainable projectThe earth pavilion is an exposition and presentation building for a worldwide organisation acting in the environmental sector.The pavilion travels all over the world to address climate issues. For this reason the whole pavilion is demountable and transportable by small lorries.

The eye-catching facade is based on the QuaDror system. It consists of a wooden 3-D framework which provides rigidity and stability.Three different types of canvas’ cover the facade. One is transparent to let daylight trough, one is transparent and covered with photo voltaic cells and the third is opaque and insulated. Depending on the location the covers of the facade can be adapted.

Sustainable housing project by BehnischThe formal industrial area at the waterfront in the touristic renaissance city of Ferrara is going to be redeveloped. In this project two buildings out of the masterplan, made by Behnisch architects, are developed. The main point is sustainability.

Dwellings for families, work-shops and small commercial spaces are combined within the two buildings. Rammed earth is used as main material. For this cradle to cradle material local soil is used. It has positive effects on the humidity in the houses which is caused by the hot summers in Ferrara. The material also provides a good sound barrier against the busy road.

Lighting projectThe goal of this project was to create a lighting design for a self chosen type of space in an old factory hall in Geneva.This is the design for the production hall of a luxury watch brand. The assembly of watches is very detailed work. It requires a bright, calm space with constant light conditions and no glare.These conditions are achieved by pointing the characteristic shed roofs to the north. When the illuminance in the room is to low, four types of artifi cial light will compensate the illuminance.One big wall is covered with an image of a forest. This wall provides a calm ambience and also provides light.

Small public building projectThe faculty of architecture of the TU Delft needs a new bigger library containing workspaces, a lecture hall, a fi xed space for the famous chair collection and of course a storage space for the books.In this design the library is located at the western side of the faculty. This side is chosen as the faculty lies at the moment with its side to the central axis of the campus. The new complex provides a better entrance to the faculty from the campus.All different functions are located at the place that provides the best conditions for the function. The chair collection is situated in a prominent transversal box so it forms the calling card of the faculty. The actual library consists out of tree parts, the main entrance, the bookcollectionbox and the study area. The main entrance is located in the old building and forms the living-room of the library. To the left you’ll fi nd the long bookcollectionbox which is only lighted from above. This provides a calm atmosphere which focuses on fi nding your book. The study area is placed above the lecture hall and has a big terrace outside which can be used in summer. The end of the main hall (called ‘‘BK street’’) connects the different functions with each other. By the different gradations of openness the composition attracts people from the street to go inside.

Fire safetyA special point of concern is the fi re safety.To fulfi ll to the rules, the large boxes above the ground needed an extra fi re staircase. To not damage the characteristic design of the boxes, I designed a more unconventional emergency exit.This door is integrated in the wall and won’t be noticed under normal circumstances.In case of fi re, the door can be opened and will form a bridge leading which leads to the fi re staircase.
