The subject of this work is a project of a student residence in the Aniołki district, Gdańsk, with some place where it is possible to get something quickly to eat, both for living there students and in-coming people.

Students were obligated firstly to prepare the general concept of the building and secondly to do the technical documentation to prove their enginneer skills. The following design presented in this work is a free-storey building with an underground garrage. It consists of three different parts with two functional programs.

The first function is a student residence while the third one is a connector between the two of them. Each room is equipped with a bathroom and a kitchenette. In the connector there are located areas with a common space – a small bistro bar and large lounge. All supported by utility rooms and storages.

The main unit of the whole complex is a cuboid which gathers functions of living and semi-privat spaces like common kitchen or a laundry room. The windows of the dormitory rooms are located in the south and east side of the building.

The two cuboids are covered with concrete panels. On the first and second floor the elevation is also partly covered by wood panels. They divide spaces widely available from privat and semiprivat spaces.

The next added object is a one-storey connector made of glass. There are combined different functions in the connector. The glass doors that cover the whole connector allow to open up the whole building. Thanks to that it is possible to adapt this part of the complex in many ways.

The whole complex idea is to be both a calm place for living and a place that open itself up to people.

COS is a fashion brand for women and men who want modern, functional and considered design. Offering reinvented classics and wardrobe essentials, they create pieces that are made to last beyond the season.

The idea of this project was to make the COS store as meaningfull as the designs they are creating. The COS stores are always opened in carefully considered locations, applying an architectural design concept that preserves location’ original features whilst creating a modern and welcoming space.

That is why it is located in a very particular district of historic meaning. Together with a huge restaurant it creates not only buildings but also a net of public spaces related to each other and to the context of the district.

The house stands between two lakes in the valley, surrounded by forests from each side. Its resident is a couple which works in a city and comes there to relax. Designed building provides them with a bedroom with a view for the lake and for the forest, It’s also accecable from the tarrace. There is provided a seperate room facig a forest-wall for the guests.

In the northern side of the house there is a road and at the southern one there is a lake. The main idea for the design was to make the best possible use of the view and the sunny southern side while avoiding the potentional traffic on the road.

Therefore, the whole northern elevation is closed, leaving only a gap to have a possibility of using the terrace without entering the building.

urban planning/CONNECTION City6th term, bachelor studies: Gdansk University of Technology, collaboration with: Ala Szczesniak, Klaudia Iwanowska

Location: Portland, USA

At the 6th term we made a project in cooperation with Oregon Leadership in Sustainability (OLIS). The main subject of the project was a new porposal for the postindustrial, devasteted area opposite the City Center next to riverside.

Our first assignment were city analysis including scenario planning, sustainable Development and Regenerative Design, International Case Studies. Secondly we made architecture, landscape architecture and urban design concepts.

We found it very important to save the industrial character of this part of Portlad, so we decided to save most of the magazines. In some, the function can remain the same, in others change totally but still is arranged in many postindustrial ways.

Evon though the regular net of the district we found it very unorganized and architecturally chaotisch.

That’s why we have been looking for a functional core that would not only connect the area of „Innovation District” but also refresh previously mentioned structure.

Influenced by varied communication system we came up with an idea of creating functional paths.Altough most of the area includes residence and magazines we wanted to create places that would attract people.

The district analysis (founding existing services and commercial buildings) led us to rising of five functional paths among buildings.

We divided them into functions like:

* education path* business&services path* culture path* recreation path* night path

The second part of the project was to develop the idea on the area of 16 hectares - to make plans for „Innovation district”. The Portland Innovation District is a collaborative planning and design project with the Oregon Leadership in Sustainability (OLIS), Oregon Museum of Science and Industry (OMSI), Gdansk University of Technology (GUT) and City of Portland officials.

The Portland Innovation District site is bounded by the SE Clay Street on the north, SE Caruthers Street on the south, railroad on the east, and Willamette River on the west. The site encompasses approximately 18 hectares [46 acres].The Central Eastside Industrial District (CEID) is part of the “Portland Innovation Quadrant” which includes the University District, Marquam Hill, and South Waterfront. The „Innovation district” is mostly damaged, partly with some industrial and storeroom function. That’s why the main aim of city of Portland is to revitalise the whole area and to bring it closer to the standard of the city center. The „Innovation district” is supposed to be both similar to Oregon City Center and with its own, unique character. The hart of the area is the existing Oregon Museum of Science and Industry. Among other inspiring buildings are: Oregon Rail Heritage Foundation and Portland Opera.

That project is of course continuation of the Conceptual Design. The paths that arose on the net of Portland find themselves in the selected area. Although the main aim is the same (dividing paths just like functions), the leading of the paths changes themselves. The paths combine buildings of the same functions not only on the ground but also on many other surfaces. Sometimes they lead towards the green-roofs of the buildings, sometimes through thebuildings, one of them leads even to an enermous spiral. The reason for that kind of project is that the area is full of bridges, railways, free-ways, overpasses. The new communication system provides pedestrians with an amazing view over the Willamette River and the rest of the town.

urban planning/water²6th term: master studies, Gdansk University of Technology, collaboration with: Klaudia Iwanowska, Agata Hinca, Martyna Sprengel, Magda Borowiec

Location: Oksywie, Poland

Water2 - this project is going to take you into an unforgettable journey, with the feel of a fresh breeze of the see and brand new experiences. We want you to explore Oksywie from the side of the sea, there where Baltic had shaped the identity of the city and its inhabitants. The name of the project „water²” aim is to intestificate the motion on the coastal line, to fill a concrete square with the water, creating new, unlimited possibilities.

The most important advantage of the Oksywie district is how close it is located to the sea. In 2015 there was created a retaining wall alongshore the Baltic Sea. It is a unique place in the Polish Baltic Sea waterfront thanks to an amazing view at the two torpedo buildings of a historical meaning. The place has become therefore an attractive spot not just for the tourists but mostly for inhabitants of the district .

However, the accessibility to the sea is there limited by a number of military sites located along the waterfront. The sea is accessable only from the side of the small fishing village, which is densely built. The way is not only inconvenient for visitors but above all - for its inhabitants.

The main aim of the project was to create an alternative for the existing way to the seaside. The most convenient direction for it seemed to be an extension of Marynarska street. With the right distance from the fishing village , bothways create there some kind of a loop for the visitors, convenient bypass around the boulevard.

Our project creates the space in betweeb those two ways. The planned „attractions” on the boulevard are supposed to introduce residents of Oksywie to the sea and to attract tourists to that district.

Here are the few stops we created for you:* Have you ever smam in the fresh air? Probably yeah, but still you have a possibility to do it in an outdoor swimming pool situated in the middle of the sea. In the winter the swimming pool develops into an ice rink. Additionally there is designed a glass lift with a slide from the top to the sea. * And how about some fresh fish just from the sea? The restaurant where you can eat it, is located in the middle of the boulevard and on the foodboat that serves snacks along the whole boulevard* The Culture Pavillon is a place for temporary exhibitions. In a concrete frame you will be able to sea the underwater life of Baltic Sea and sometimes some battles at the sea on an interactive, transparent screen.

Page 23: Portfolio Hanna Olszowa
Page 24: Portfolio Hanna Olszowa

We designed for the district Oksywie an interactive device that we called a Periscope, cause you can see through it the not so distant sea. The main purpose of the Periscope is to draw the attention of residents and tourists on the closeness of the seaside boulevard. The Periscopes will be provided by three main functions: * information function - which includes meteorological information and the image from the webcam located on the boulevard and under water* entertainment function - at Periscope you can play the popular game „ships”* cultural function - there will be a possibility to see what’s going on in the nearby Pavilion of Culture plus there will be an information about events, concerts , exhibitions and other attractions that would happen in the district

All periscopes will be powered by solar energy, they will provide wi- fi zone, and the speakers from the device will reverberate quiet murmur of the waves .

Together with the Periscopes there was designed a net of pavement signs, that will direct people straight to the sea. The signs will be placed along the streets : Dickman street, Fishing Village street, Marynarska street, Colonel street and Arciszewskich street.

competitions/nonentityIdeas Forward/ 12th edition/ 2016/ utopia - love and a hutcollaboration with: Ala Szczesniak, Klaudia Iwanowska, Agata Hinca

1st honorable mention

Love is like an enormous lake that fills up slowly with the stream of passing years. The water is the only witness of the two of us meeting ourselvees in the world. There is nothing that disturbes us there.

As time goes by, the water raises up and the present dissapears. Utopia is never anything but the reality of tomorrow and that today’s reality was the Utopia of yesterday. It is the two of us that define the filling of the meaning of the words.

It is important that there is no evidence of the existance of our love, that our feelings can not occupy space. The place where we live is not a place.
