Educational Technology

Is a profession like teaching.

Is a field involved in a

applying a complex,

integrated process to analyze and

solve problems in human learning.

Is a theory about how problem in

human learning are

identified and solved.

In concerned with the practice of

using educational methods and

resources for the ultimate goal of facilitating the

learning processes

Consists of the designs and

environments that engage

learners.

Technology: Boon or Bane? Technology contributes much to the improvement

of the teaching learning process and to the humanization of life. It is indeed a blessing. But when not used properly, it becomes a detriment to instruction and human progress and development.

Technology is made for man and not man for technology. It is made for the teacher and not the teacher for technology. This means that technology is meant to serve man in all aspects of life including instruction. It is man, and in the context of the classroom, the teacher, who determines hoe technology ought to be used in order to reap the maximum benefits that come along with technology.

Boon BaneMakes our work faster and easier. Leads to laziness.

Able to communicate our relatives in far place.

Can cause health problems.

Serves us tools for gaining more knowledge.

Increase our electric bills.

Update people from current events. Children became prone to pornography.

Makes us more comfortable. Most of the people are fond in using internet than spending time with their families.

Systematic Approach to

Teaching

Page 10: Portfolio in Educational Technology ll

The Systems Approach views the entire educational program as a system of closely interrelated parts.

It is an orchestrated learning pattern with all parts harmoniously integrated into the whole: the school, the teacher, the students, the objectives, the media, the materials, and assessment tools and procedures.

Such an approach integrates the older, more familiar methods and tools of instruction with the new ones such as the computer.

Page 11: Portfolio in Educational Technology ll

The focus of systematic instructional planning is student.

It tells about the systematic approach to teaching in which the focus in the teaching the students.

3.Technology as content to

support learning-by-doing.

4.Technology as a social medium

to support learning by conversing.

5.Technology as intellectual partnerto support learning-

by-reflecting.

The Roles Of Educational In Learning

Page 16: Portfolio in Educational Technology ll

Traditional Way The learner learns from the

technology and the technology serves as TEACHER.

Technology serves as source and presenter of knowledge.

It is assumed that “knowledge is embedded in the technology and the technology presents that knowledge to a student”.

Technology like computers is seen as productivity tool.

Page 17: Portfolio in Educational Technology ll

Constructivist way Technology serves as a

PARTNER IN LEARNING. Educational technology

serves as learning tools to learn with.

It engages learners in active, constructive, intentional, authentic and cooperative.

It provides opportunities for technology and learner interaction for meaningful learning.

New Blooms taxonomy

Page 19: Portfolio in Educational Technology ll
Page 20: Portfolio in Educational Technology ll

Bloom’s Revised Taxonomy• Taxonomy of Cognitive Objectives.• 1950’s- developed by Benjamin Bloom.• Means of expressing qualitatively different kinds of thinking.• Adapted for classroom use as planning tool.• Continues to be one of the most universally

applied models.• Provides a way organise thinking skills into six

levels, from the most basic to the higher order levels of thinking.

• 1990’s- Lorin Anderson (former student of Bloom) revisited the taxonomy.

• As a result, a number of changes were made.

Page 21: Portfolio in Educational Technology ll

Change in Terms

• The names of six major categories were changed from noun to verb form.

• As the taxonomy reflects different forms of thinking and thinking is an active process verb were more accurate.

• The subcategories of the six major categories were also replaced by verbs.

• The knowledge category war renamed . Knowledge is product of thinking and was inappropriate to describe a category of thinking and was replaced with the word remembering instead.

• Comprehension become understanding and synthesis was renamed creating in order to better reflect the nature of the thinking describe by each category.

Page 22: Portfolio in Educational Technology ll

Change in Emphasis

• More authentic tool for curriculum planning.

• Aimed at a broader audience.• Easily applied to all levels of

schooling.• The revision emphasises explanation

and description of subcategories.

EDGAR DALE’S CONE

OF EXPERIENCE

It is a visual

model, a pictorial device that presents bands of experience arranged according to degree of abstraction not degree of difficulty.

Page 25: Portfolio in Educational Technology ll

Principles on the cone of Experience:

The cone is based on the relationships of various educational experiences to reality ( real, me), and the bottom level of the cone, “ direct purposeful experiences,’’ represents reality or the closest things to real, everyday life.

The opportunity for a learner to use a variety or several senses ( sight, smell, hearing, touching, movement) is considered in the cone.

Direct experience allows us to use all senses. Verbal symbols involve only hearing. The more sensory channels possible in

interacting with a resource, the bitter the chance that many students can learn from it.

Page 26: Portfolio in Educational Technology ll

Each level of the cone above its base moves a learner a step further away from real- life experiences, so experiences focusing only on the use of verbal symbols are the furthest removed from real life.

Motion pictures ( also television) is where it is on the cone because it is observational experiences with little or no opportunity to participate or use senses other than seeing and hearing.

Contrived experiences are ones that are highly participatory and simulate real life situation or activities.

Dramatized experiences are defined as experiences in which the learner acts out a role or activity.

Learning Through Educational Technology

Page 28: Portfolio in Educational Technology ll

The course has lend me to understand that the technological advancement of the 21st century learner has a positive implication for the teaching and learning process while the changes in behavior has resulted in strict policies being implemented to limit the behavior of the student.

Page 29: Portfolio in Educational Technology ll

The course Education Technology involves using Technology in the classroom to enhance the teaching learning process especially in the 21st Century Classroom. Technology undeniably plays a central role in modern life. We are also exposed to different materials highlighting the importance of integrating technology in the classroom.

Page 31: Portfolio in Educational Technology ll

Meaningful LearningIf the traditional learning environment

gives stress to rote learning gives focus to

new experience that departs from the learning of a sequence of words but

gives attention to meaning.

It assumes that:

• Students already have prior knowledge that is relevant to new

learning.

• Student are willing to perform class work to find connection between what they already know and what thay can

learn.

Discovery LearningStudents perform task to uncover

what is to be learned. New ideas and new decisions are generated in the learning process. Regardless of the

need to move on and depart from the structured lesson previously set.

Dimension of Meaningful &

Discovery LearningNotice the increase in Discovery from

note learning

*Math Drills*Trial & Error puzzles

*Applying science lab formulas*Lecture/Textbook reading

*Simulations*Adventure activities

Page 32: Portfolio in Educational Technology ll

Generative LearningHere, we have active listeners who

attend to learning events and generate meaning from this experiences and draw inferences there by creating a

personal model of explanation to the new experience in the context of

existing knowledge.

This is viewed as different from the simple process of storing information.

Motivation and responsibility are crucial to this domain of learning.

ConstructivismHere, the learner builds a personal understanding through appropriate

learning activities and a good learning environment. The most accepted

constructivism principles are:

* Learning consist in what a person can actively assemble for himself and

not what he can just ask from someone else.

* Role of learning is to help the individual live to his personal world.

The Student After Educational

Technology II

Page 34: Portfolio in Educational Technology ll

For the upcoming years, learning process will become broad. It is due to the

advancement of technologies which serves as their sources of learning. Nowadays, will

be more knowledgeable and becomes globally competent.

This course helped me to enhance my knowledge and skills in computer technology.

I became aware of the things that I can do best with technology.

Page 35: Portfolio in Educational Technology ll

Studying Education technology provide me with an explanation of the importance of being a computer- literate, especially to teachers and future teachers.

Educational Technology 2 is concerned with “ integrating Technology into Teaching and Learning”.After completing this course, I become able to extend my knowledge and skills on computers and other technology-related matters. Now, I have a deeper understanding about what technology advancements can bring into the teaching and learning process and how it helps in managing a more interactive learning environment.
