Nearer to the end of this project, I collaborated with the textures and concept art department of ourteam in order to finish a few shots that needed to be completed before the deadline. The shots thatI needed to complete involved shot 10, shot 13 and shot 14. Within these scenes, my role was toreplace the existing features of the scene with the new textures and objects that were required. Forexample, I needed to replace the clouds, the grass and the sky textures with the new textures that

Georgia and Lauren Clair had done. Also, in some of these scenes, some of the objects needed to beanimated a little bit, mainly the clouds so I did this too. Once these textures had been replaced, Ithen adjusted the lighting a little bit so that it matched the other shots that they had produced. Thisinvolved changing the colour, direction and opacity of the lighting and then I rendered the shot tosee if it matched.

The images displayed above show the folder containing the files that I used in order to complete thistask. This involves the maya files, the word document containing the specifications of the lightingand the photoshop textures.

In the following images, I have included screenshots of the bridge model and the textures that Iused. In terms of reference for when I modelled the bridge, I looked at the concept art that thetexture members of our team completed. In terms of the design, I wanted to keep it close to the

concept art and this is evident in the image below. However, in terms of the colour and textures inthe concept art, I wanted to change this a bit in order to give the bridge a bit more detail. I will talkabout this a bit more later on. Although, with regard to the model, it was a fairly simple design to doand I think it fits with the style of the story. If I had to improve the bridge, I would say that thetextures could be lined up a bit better, for example the lines on the wood arent completely lined upall around the bridge. Other than that, I think that the bridge fits the style and is quite simple butlooks effective.

With regard to the following images, I have included different versions of the process of making theeagle. This includes the modelling, rigging and texture process. Firstly, with relation to the firstimage, this was the first attempt of creating the eagle. To begin with, I mainly looked at realisticeagles and tried to incorporate this into the model, but then I realised it didnt really fit the style ofthe story. Also, in this version of the eagle, I realised that the feathers were too thick and would be

quite difficult to animate so I changed this in the later versions so that they were just planes thatcontained flat textures. I could then put bones into the planes and they could be animated a loteasier. Furthermore, in the initial models of the eagle, I put a bend into the knees of the bird and Irealised this was not accurate to the skeleton of a real bird, its actually reversed. Once this waschanged, I noticed the difference as it acted more like an eagle. Also, in terms of the head of theeagle, I changed this too in order to fit the design of the eagle in the childrens story. In the initialmodels of the eagle, I thought the head looked too rounded and contained a bit too much detail forthe brief of the story. Looking at the reference of the book, I then changed this to look a bit squarerand didnt include too many polys. Similarly, this needed to be addressed for the beak too and theshape of the eagles body needed to join more with the feet. W ith the initial model, the bird looked

a bit too humanoid and the wings needed to change position so that it would be easier to rig andwould connect to the body better.

In terms of the rig of the eagle, I completed the first rig and it seemed to work well. I had put a basicskeleton into the eagle and the bones that were placed into the wings and feathers behaved a lotbetter with the new model. Also, I resolved an issue I had with the beak as the bones were tooheavily influencing the head. However, there were still a few issues with the movement of the beakand the feet so in order to overcome this due to the limited amount of time remaining, this was re-made with help from a friend.

With the new rig and model completed, I then looked at reference from the book in order to createthe textures for the eagle. I will talk about this more later on.

Firstly, with relation to the textures of the bridge, I have included the developing process of thetextures that I did in Photoshop in the screenshots above.

Image 1 = Looking at the colours used in the first image, I tried to mimic the concept that Georgiahad created in order to make the design consistent. Also, I built the colour up by using a few othertextures so that it would give the bridge a bit more detail. Although, after receiving feedback, I wastold to develop this even further and the next image was the final product.

Image 2 = In this image, I have included the final colour and design of the bridge that I completed inPhotoshop. To create this, I mainly built up numerous textures and adjusted the opacity of them byusing masks and painting onto them using white, grey and black. Also, I adjusted the overall colourof the bridge and used burn or highlights to create a more detailed texture and fit the style of thebook.

These textures were then saved as PNGs and imported onto the models in May a.

Similarly to this process, I did this for the eagle, where I kept altering the textures in Photoshop, exporting them to PNGs and then seeing how they looked on the model in Maya. However, theprocess was slightly different too as I UV Snapshot the maps of the different components of theeagle and fit this onto one page that was then imported into Photoshop. This was a really handytechnique as it meant that I could just draw straight onto the components and could see how itwould look when imported into Maya.

In terms of the textures used for the Eagle, I mainly painted the block colour that was used in thebook and then added to this by using different textures and slowly built this up. Also, for specificdetails, for example, the lines on the head, feet etc I looked at how this was done in the conceptand then adapted this onto the textures of my model. In addition, to get the curve of the feathersfor the wings and body, I used a tool called Warp which worked really well for getting them to bendin the right position.

Although, an issue that I did come across was with the components of the eagle and the way theyconverted into Photoshop. For example, for some of the body parts of the eagle (legs), they didntmap properly onto the UV Snapshot so it proved to be a bit tricky when trying to line everything up.However, when I made a few tweaks to the mapping in Maya, this was resolved.

If I had to improve the eagle, I would perhaps add a bit more detail to the polys (e.g. more divisions)and perhaps adjusted the textures so that they mapped a lot better to the components of the eagle. Also, I would have created a separate component or plane for the eyes so that the eagle could havedifferent expressions. Other than that, I think that the eagle was successful and fits the brief of thestory.

With regard to the modelling, rigging and texturing of the cow, the images below display theproduction processes of it. In terms of the first model that was created for the cow, I mainly lookedat references of cows and at the images in the book. Although, these were not as clear so I had tocreate concepts of my own. These can be found below. To begin with, I started off with basic shapesin order to see how I would provide more detail to each specific feature. Also, at this stage I noticed

specific things that needed work doing to them, for example, the body shape as it was too large andneeded a bit more detail for the shape. Furthermore, once I had done the basic shapes, I started toadd more polys so that I could detail the cow more, ready for the textures that I would create inPhotoshop. Similarly to the eagle, once I had completed the cow, I mapped each of the componentsof the cow onto a UV Snapshot and imported this into Photoshop where I then painted the textureson them. This was then exported as a PNG and placed onto the cow model. Also, in terms of theother features of the cow, for example, the tail, ears and udder, I created a design sheet that Ithought would fit the s tyle of the story as it wasnt really clear what their features were like in theimages provided.

For the textures, I did a similar process as the eagle, where I just blocked out the colours, and thenslowly built up the detail by using different textures. It was fairly simple when painting them on as Icould draw over the components that had mapped from the UV Snapshot. Although, if I had to saywhat I had a bit of an issue with, it would be the patches on the cow as it didnt really fit very wellonto the cow when I imported the textures back into Maya. To resolve this, I just kept changing theshapes of the patches and eventually managed to get the textures to work so that they didnt lookstretched or low quality.

For the rig of the cow, I created a basic rig that would enable the cow to rear up when the eagle fliesunderneath it. Also, I put bones into the ears, tail and udder of the cow to make it look a bit moreauthentic. Overall, the rigging process of the cow was a lot easier than the eagle and the only issue I

had with it was when I binded the skin to the rig and created a world control. Other than that, theseissues were resolved by myself and the cow was complete.

If I had to improve the cow, I would perhaps have added a few more controls for the body so that itcould be a bit more fluid when animating. Again, along with the eagle, I perhaps would have added aplane for the eyes so that the cow could have more expressions. Also, maybe I would have added afew more polys in the body/head but apart from that I think that the cow illustrates the style of thestory.

The following images contain the drawings that I completed for the final animatic in the pre-production stages of our project. To create this, I used the shots that we had all decided on in theprevious version of the animatic and then re-drew them so that I could finalise the shots and keepthe style consistent with the story. I looked at the style of the book in order to get reference for thecharacters and get an idea of the different expressions. As well as the drawings, there was alsosound in this animatic so that we could get a rough idea of the timing and of what the characterswould sound like. We all had a go at recording the narrators voice but then settled with the finalvoice. Overall, I think that this animatic was useful for these purposes and was a lot clearer to seewhat would be happening in each scene. Although, if I had to improve it, I think I would havechanged a few of the expressions in some of the shots in order to fit the mood of the story better.

These images are a few more concept ideas that I did along the production stages of the project. Forthe eagle image, I wanted to explore the colours that could be used and I wanted to see how theeagle would look within the landscape. For the cow image, along with the ones used earlier, Icreated different views of the cow so that I had a rough idea of what it would look like in differentviews. This proved to be very useful as I could model the cow exactly to the image planes I created

    within the Maya scene.
