birds eye view

The proposal explores the physical and conceptual dynamics of a program component (the step),to create a continuous sequence of evolving spaces which encloses, moderates light, openly circulates and provides the framework for urban food-markets, complementing these spaces with a green landscape. In addition, the stepping component develops micro - indoor and outdoor performance venues, a cafe, and open program spaces providing for a variety of leisurely, cultural and intellectual activity.

The project was driven by research of the physical properties and limitations of the staircase, the implied spatial relationships it creates, terrace farming, and the ability of the step to create fluid transition between wall, stair, and planter

Transient Terrain

The Schuylkill River is in constant flux. Conquered by the city, her water is undrinkable and polluted. In addition to this, storm-water surges flush sewage into the river, further tarnishing this precious gift to the city of Philadelphia. Transient Terrain is an attempt to challenge and mitigate this problem.

Acknowledging the constant flux of the river, its architecture reaches out to the Schuylkill, and invites it into the city on its own premise : the tidal shift. Studies of elevation and its ability to control the flow of water, and the development and implementation of a folding component that accommodates filtration landscape and program has resulted in an architecture that encapsulates the rhythm of the Schuylkill in a transient architectural system.

This is the 21st century. Pace and perceptions have quickened.

Sport has seen a revolution in the last 25 years or so in the form of the extreme, as mechanical empowered

humans seek to defeat gravity and master natural elements.

There is a calling for a park that is dedicated to the evolution and

cultivation of sport.

The site at Bridesburg is an ideal location for the Zoom! Park - creating

a venue driven park that provides an economic and entertainment hub to

the region and locale.

The design emerges from an iterative process that emphasizes circulation,

programmatic performance and flexibility through landform and

infrastructure.
