Elevation, Soil and VegetationDuring site planning and design studio, the professor asked us to choose one part of Mt Airy Forest to design. We need to place some types of housing, parking, roads, and parks accord-ing to topography, soil map, vegetation map. As a group, our site is located in southeast of Mt Airy Forest. For elevation map, we conducted a 8-layer topographic map with 1/8’’ thickness and each layer presents 50 ft in change, from 500 to 850 ft. There are 3 types of soil in the site, silt, clay and sand. Two types of vegetaion exist in the site, heavy vegetation and grass.

LegendBecause of topography, soil and vegetation conditions, we had placed mixed-use buildings along main road sincew they provide more convenient services with their neighborhoods, and placed single family houses along residential roads, and placed 6-floor apartment on some relatively flat places.

The conventional local raods are de-signed with setbacks at the both sides of the road used purely for ver-tical car parking so that there are no spaces for pedestrians. In addition, residents seldom walk in the Middle East because of sand and dust weather.

This terrible condition can be greatly uplifted by converting part of the set-back into parallel parking, leaving the rest 3.2 meters for pedestrian walk-ways with landscape featured at resi-dents’ doorsteps

Temporary parallel parking, provide convenience for friends coming to visit

Bulged waling entrance, provide better streetview for prople

Jointed entrance for sectack garages of two units, save land and increase land use rate
