MATRIXGoogle Campus Multifunctional Working Space Design| Advance Studio | Spring 2016
The main inspiration for Matrix is based upon my research of the
habitat of fibroblast cells and mast cells. In the center of my design, you
will find a garden that represents nature and a library that represents culture
as mediator to immune or mediator physically or mentally to the communi-
ty. Conceptually, the core of the building functions as a “secretor” of mast
cell, which in nature releases a “mediator” from its characteristic granules
into the local micro-environment. Similarly, in my design, the twisted floors
are impor tant because it represents the movement of the fibroblast cell
that releases its collagen and promotes healing. The twisting motion in
three dimensions is similar to how collagen reacts in a three dimensional
matrix. The connected core areas of the garden and the library rotate with
the shif ted floor plate and release a “mediator: in to different areas of the
micro-environment.
My project creates a very open and active space for working. People
can fully enjoy the natural light and wonder ful scene of Mountain View. Peo-
ple are inspired to walk throughout the office instead of staying inactive in
one work area. My furniture is located along the corridor and allows people
to work individually or in groups in any space of the building in both sit and
stand positions.

POLYGONTransformable Modular Units Design | Advance Studio | Spring 2016
The main purpose of this modular unit is to cure and immune people from
the difficulties and unhappiness in their life. This modular unit creates a space that
attracts people to stay, relax and solve the problems by talking with each other.
This modular unit functions differently when it is in different status. The opened unit
serves for different activities. When it spreads out it creates a platform and space
for people to work and relax individually or in group. When it folds up it creates a
semi-closed space which allows people to have a private meeting or discussion.

In daily life, people are always busy without being conscious of their senses and sur-
roundings. The concept of sensation Ferry is to create a unique experience by constructing im-
mersive environment. Our goal is to create unique refreshing space in ferry different from daily
life. We hope the 5 sense experiences (sight, taste, touch, sound, and smell) we created on the
ferry can bring people out of the busy city, not only physically, but also mentally. Interactive
spaces encourage passengers to engage in physical experiments. The space that can magnify
people’s senses can deepen our experience in the physical world. Passengers are going to par-
ticipate in different environments on the ferry and be stimulated by the surroundings. We hope
the refreshing experience on the ferry will bring people inspiration to their daily life. The ferry
will be designed into different areas that can maximize the sense of sight, taste, touch, sound,
and smell.

It is a project designed for Next University. The main concept of this project is the con-
tinuity of space and circulation which decreases the boundary between spaces. The continuity
can create a space for a better communicatuin between students and faculty, which will blend
the boundaries betwee classrooms and in-between spaces. The dome shape spaces, have high
ceiling extend to the upper floor which create the connection between first floor and second
floor. The curvy light fixtures continue to convey the same formal language as the architecture
in the building.

The project is to create a lamp sur face. My inspiration is mobius strips which can create space within a continuous

This project is a 3D printed pieces.

People are always conscious about their appearance. San Francisco is a busy city. Every
morning people are rushing to take transpor tation so they sometimes shor t of time to check
their own appearance. While the muni is designed based on the study of universal design for
different body positions, the glass pattern on the wall and ceiling of the muni allow people to
check their clothes and appearance. The muni is designed as a tunnel that lead people to the
middle of the tunnel that has the most exaggerate pattern on the wall and ceiling. The combi-
nation of light fixture and reflective pattern could create a unique experience for people.
