The distribution of the building is based on 3 main mas-sical boxes which will contain the program of the library in itself. The 3 oor celing free volume intersecting the 3 boxes may be the visual, spatial and physical connec-tion between them while allowing a direct permeability of uxes between the old town and the new center of activi-ties: Plaa Mathausen.

The building is understood as 3 boxes which are con-nected in their inside parts enhacing the feeling of com-munity and at the same time facing and in connection with the outside-village.

  • PRIVATE HOUSE / HOUSING

HOUSE ON A CLIFF - (ETSAV - Studio Project Tap II - Year 1 / Semester II) The exercice proposed was a family house for 4 people with all the facilities for living needed for a family, including a studio-library room. The house was supposed to be build at the end of a big path arriving from the forest and next to a sheer cliff which at the same time served very good views. The house had to projected considering the roof as one of the important aspects of the project. The house is projected in one oor and its appearence is given by the inclination of its roof. It is separates in two main areas; the living area and the area where the dormitories are and there is given a special importance to the way people may aproach the house before entering.

LIVING IN 40M2 / AGGREGATION OF UNITS - (ETSAV - Studio Project Tap V - Year 3 / Semester I)The exercice an aggregation of living appartments of 40m2 that could grow in exibitily along the years. After deciding a living cell students should complement the other part of the buildings. Parameters like water, light and IT communications were also considered while projecting. Community life and corridor acces were some of the possibilities of the project. It was a special importance to details since all the project was done in a small scale.

WOODEN FAMILY HOUSE - (ETSAV - Studio Project TAP III / Year 2 / Semester I)The exercice proposed was a house for 2 people with all the facilities for living needed. The house was supposed to be made in wood material paralel with the studies that where being done in the construction workshop class. The slope of the soil was really pronounced and that was one of the big considerations of the project. The project was constructed entirelly in wood and some considerations were made in order to let sun enter and ventilation to be done. The house takes advantatge of the slope by digging on the ground and adapting to the area by constructing a 2- oors wooden house. The basement of the house is protected from the humidities and strenght of the earth by a structural concrete wall.

The house was supposed to be build at the end of a big path arriving from the forest and next to a sheer cliff which at the same time served very good views. The exercice was supposed to be done in one whole semester including 12 weeks. The house had to projected considering the roof as one of the important aspects of the project.

    PROJECT STRATEGIES

The house was projected in one main oor and organizing all the living areas separated from the dormitories. The main entrance was situated in a central point and that was organizing the private (on the left hand side) from the public (on the right hand side), without having any interconection. The main entrance is generous, with a enlargement of the view thourgh a cristal facade, also a terrace can be joined by then. The inclinated roofs give more caracther to the different rooms giving more height in the more representative rooms or the ones in which their program calls for a wider spa-ce. The entrance from the small path in the forest is not directly, it goes a bit around so the new visi-tor can get an idea of the house before s/he actua-lly inside of it.

  • PUBLIC BUILDINGS

LIGHTHOUSE IN THE BALTIC SEA - (KTH - Architectural Technology 4a - YEAR 4 / Semester I)Sustainable lighthouse projected in the middle of the baltic sea. The lighthouse should consider facilities for shipping safety, weather and environ-mental research. It had to be used as an exchange station for helicopters and small ships, also comprising new facilities for the lighthouse, housing 4 people for shorter stays. The structure is to be constructed in a rational and sustainable way, using the most suitable technical solutions. It must have extremely low maintenance needs.

LIVABLE COMMUNITIES: STUDENT RESIDENCE - (ETSAV- Studio ProjectTAP G - YEAR 5 / Semester I) The project was presented as a way of building architecture from the small to the big understanding the small as the more habitable place needed for a daily life accomodation person and the big as the aggregation of this units and how could some facilities be shared with other users. Some previous cases of university student places where studied before entering the projecting phase. It was given a particular importance to suistainable aspects in the construcction of the project.

LIBRARY IN DOSRIUS - (ETSAV - Studio Project TAP A - YEAR 5 / Semester II) The project proposed was a municipal library for the town of Dosrius, near Barcelona. The program required a library for with a newspaper library, a special place for kids and the general library. It also required a polifunctional space that could be used as a theatre. The project should be developed in a maximum of 2 oors and it was situated in the limit of the town, facing nice views of the landscape. The project was developed understanding the limit of the parcel and how could the building be placed in order to respect the alingnment with the street and and the same time enhancing the views. Three main buildings were placed with an intersection body connecting all of them.

HOTEL - COMMERCIAL AREA IN BARCELONA - (ETSAV - Project Studio TAP A - YEAR 5 / Semester I) - The project proposed was a hotel and a commercial area in the business area on the high part of the Diagonal in Barcelona. The complex should include facilities Barcelona visitors and at the same time respect the open areas in their surroundings. A difference of height was de netelly important between the narrow part of the area which made the section one of the important parts of the project.

  • Svenska Bjrn is a sunken rock in the middle of the sea. Shipping safety, weather and environmental research exploring the Baltic is now putting higher demands on the platform, which is to be used as an exchange station for helicopters and small ships, also comprising new facilities for the lighthouse, housing 4 people for shorter stays. The structure is to be constructed in a rational and sustainable way, using the most suitable technical solutions. It must have extremely low maintenance needs.

    LIGHTHOUSE IN THE BALTIC SEA

    SUSTAINABLE LIGHTHOUSE

To try to make the lighthouse as much self-suf cient as possi-ble, we took as one of the important points of the project the orientation of it. Considering this, we installed PV panels and Warm Sanitary Water panels in the whole of the inclined South faade and in parts of the West and East faades. By inclining the faades, a part of taking more ef ciency from the suns di-rect solar energy, we create double faade which empty spaces were very useful for tubes and cables of the installation to be hidden and to be directly conducted to the installation cham-ber in the ground oor. Since the north faade is the coldest in all the years seasons, we decided to construct it with iso-lated materials in order to safe energy inside the lighthouse.Another thing we have considered is the warming system. In the non-inclined walls we decided to install massive panels that can keep the warmth of the sun during the day and transfer it in the night. We have also thought in other ways of saving energy such as using the energy of burning biomass created by the habi-tants of the tower to supply some energy for the lighthouse.

    THE DISTRIBUTION

On the ground oor all the installations of light, water, PV are placed. On the rst oor we can nd the main living area with a pan-try, a table with 4 sits and a small toilet and a shower. Third oor contains the dormitories with 2x2 bunk beds for researchers to live du-ring their investigations and the top oor con-tains a working place to control the lighthou-se and the access to the helicopter platform.

    THE STRUCTURE

Considering the lighthouse its in the middle of Baltic sea and materials and workers are very dif cult to reach the place, the structure projected is of prefabri-cated structure of concrete of pillars and slabs with some kind of anticorrosion treatment.

    LIVABLE COMMUNITIES: STUDENT RESIDENCE

    D1

Livable communities is a project which concept begins from the small architecture to the big architecture, understan-ding that all the facilities needed in the daily life of a person (in this case a student) from the needs exclusivelly needed from one person and then how can these secondary needs can be shared with other students in order to incentivate the community life. The project was presented in 3 steps; rst study of different student dormitory units, second projection of a dormitory unit (projecting a the sharing of facilities when this unit was getting uni cated with other units), thirdly a so-lar was chosen to implement the agregation of tipologies, and at last, adaptation to the borders of the solar were made.

The project was developed understanding the limit of the parcel and how could the building be placed in order to respect the alingnment with the street and and the same time enhancing the views. Three main buildings were placed with an intersection body connecting all of them.

It was of special importance also in the project the path connecting the entrance of the library with and old path connecting the landscape which is in front of the library.

Each building was having their own exterior space area with a different use. For instance, the polyfunctional space had an open space just beside it that could be used also as a space to make some outdoor activities. Sliding doors were connecting the two spaces. The same hap-pened with the kids area with a closed special area from them to play and read while learning. The box more related with reading and relaxing is visually connected with the whole landscape.

CONTEMPORARY GREENWAYS FROM OLD RAILWAYS - (ETSAV - Project Studio Tap IV - YEAR II - Semester II)The project proposed in the area of Baix Empord (North-East Catalonia) was approched by its own student vision of the surrounding of the village of Rupi. Each student should study the area and detect which inputs could be done in or-der to improve their villagers life understanding sustainability as one of the important demmands of the course. The project detects the future adap-tion of the Flaa-La Bisbal old railway and studies and proposes the connection between the village of Rupi with with sustainable way of transport.

BAMBOO COMPETITION - (KTH - Studio I Track 4 - YEAR 4 - Semester I) The course was developed around the participation of a competition (http://www.bamboocompetition.com/). The targets of the competition were to develop new award winning designs for bamboo houses and designs for many types of buildings and structures, raise awareness of the uses of cer-ti ed structural bamboo for building code approved structures and to introduce architects, designers, builders and planners to working with bamboo as a structural material. It was also important to promote a shared vision to create an environmentally sustainable housing alternative in the building industry.

ARCHAELOGYS PLACES AND CONTEMPORARY USES - (IUAV VENICE EXCHANGE INTENSIVE PROGRAM - YEAR 5 - October 2011) The workshops aim was to give new uses to ruins in Italy that now remained forgotten in Italy by giving a new contemporary use that would enable people to realize what their ancestors did in that area in the past while enjoying the present. This projects will is to create a park recreating the city grid of the city of Kamarina by creating parcels with local vegetation: capers, rosemary, wild broom, olea europea and thyme. The project was made in groups of 3 students and was done during a 16 intensive days program.

    CITYSCAPE PARK

Kamarina, originally founded in 598 b.c was laid out upon a strict grid, with blocks measuring 35 metres east to west, and 135 metres north to south, between these blocks ran secondary streets, run-ning north to south, and the principle avenues (Pla-teau A and B) running east to west. Plateau B linked the two most important spaces within the city, the temple (now part of the museum complex to-the east) and the agora, to the east, currently an ex-cavation sited covered with a badly deteriorating structure, which is in serious need of replacement.

Currently visitors usually enter the archaeological park to the east, visiting the museum (which includes the excavations of the temple, and the walk down a rocky path to the site of the agoras excavations. While this walk includes many beautiful views, the story of the site is largely missing, with the most visitors being un-aware of the history of the site, and its previous form.

is project aims to alter this. is is achived through the use of the landscape and the recreation of the agoras enclosure. Vegetation and interventions rec-reate the citys blocks, enabling visitors to visually establish the scale of the ancient citys blocs, while the creation of structures around the agora creates a sense of enclosure, which would have been pre-sent within the ancient city. All of this is achieved while allowing visual access to the sea, as many peo-ple visit the area for its recreational activities and its views, as well as its archeological signi cance.

Stoa (North): Repited structural grid with columns located on the original axis of the stoas columns, allowing the visitors to un-derstand the originals buildings structure. Elevated walkway in location of original cov-ered walkway.

Looking north, to the east stands stoa ovest, originally allowing access to the adjacent largely unexcavated Agora di Ponente., the new invervention allows access through the square via elevated crossing points, that allows views down to the excavated stoa.

View east down reinstated Plateia B. The rear of the northern stoa provides a solid boundary for the agora, while structured veg-etation recreates the original grid pattern of Kamarina enabling the visitor to understand the large scale and strict grid pattern of the historic city.

Interventions within space to mark the grid.View of the south-eastern corner of the agora, displaying the re-peated structural grid of the inverventions and the alternating use of solids and voids, to allow views out of the site, while creating a sense of enclousure which would have been present when the an-cient city of Kamarina stoa existed.

    CONTEMPORARY GREENWAYS FROM OLD RAILWAYS

Some historical train railways have been deconstructed and given a new use as a Via Verda green-way; a path surrounded by nature to connect different settlements. The path follows exactly the same route the rails had in the past, thats why their users can enjoy the view their same ancestors did and also because of the caractheristics of the train rails, paths are usually paths with low slope, ideals to walk and go by bike. Its a good way of linking the past with a current use of todays generations. The project detects the future adap-tion of the Flaa-La Bisbal old rai-lway and studies and proposes the connection between the village of Rupi with with sustainable way of transport by adapting the slope, creating shadowed areas, adapting the soil in the necessary areas and by thinking the necessary places to rest (detecting the best places with historical background or special im-portance for the areas views.

The project was part of the Knauf competition for an Expostion Hall which made special entusiasm on enhacing the advantagdes of the panels solution in the organization of the hall. The idea of the project was a concentrate all the xed program in one area and then to spread the rest of the pa-nels around the exposition, creating different shapes and spaces. The possibility in Knauf panels to make any kind of whole in their geometry could allow permeability among spaces.

    KNAUF COMPETITIONFOR AN EXPOSITIONS HALL

From the beggining the expositions hall was thought as a walk-ing promenade in which taking as much advantagde as possible from that space was one of the main projectual ideas. Thats the main reason why walls and exposition areas become the same in this project. We can differ 2 different kinds of panels around the exposition. 1) One main central technical wall-panel which will collect all the installations and 2) anoter one 35cm wide which will be used as an exposition wall. The panel system wall will allow the possibility to make wholes used either to cross from one chamber to another or either to create spaces in order to allow viewers to see along chambers or also as an exposition space for sculptures. The fact of using cartro-guix Knauf gives a lot of geometrical possibilities. All the xed and technical area is concentrated near the en-trance and by this way all the installations can be controlled and directed from one unique point.
