Cornish rootsISTA has been running the Porthleven International Youth Theatre Festival for three years. It is part of ISTA’s mission to offer an international theatre experience to youngpeople in Cornwall who may not have the resources or the ability to travel to its events overseas. This particular focus on young people in Cornwall is a result of ISTA’s commitment to produce and develop events within Cornwall to further develop its services to Cornwall and deepen its Cornish roots.
The Festival is a four-day music theatre event for up to 75 children and young people aged 7-19 years. The participants experience a series of workshops run by professional international and local artists. Together they create an original piece of musical theatre based on a Cornish theme. This culminates in a free public performance on Porthleven harbour, which has attracted large audiences in the past.
The students experience producing a play and workshops in directing, animation, set design, dance, music, singing and acting.
