We Respect, We Challenge, We Achieve, We Believe

From the Principal It’s been a busy start to this week due to our hosting of the Portland & District Music Festival. On the bright side Spring is around the corner.

Portland & District Schools Music Festival Tuesday 27th August & Wednesday 28th August Thank you to all of our performers who represented Portland South PS last night at the Portland & District Schools Music Festival. It was an amazing performance by everyone. It definitely made me very proud to see everyone enjoying themselves and making the most of the opportunity. I even had goose bumps! A special thank you to Mrs April Haby, Mrs Gaye Ryan, Mrs Marni Phillips, Mrs Karyn Barbary and Dianne Rogers, our classroom teachers and helpers who helped make the night one to remember. Lots of time and effort has gone into making this event such a success. Thank you everyone! Wood Raffle….Congratulations Congratulations to Di Rogers who won the trailer of wood on Friday. Di couldn’t believe her luck! Thank you to Mr Craig Surkitt for volunteering his hours and time to collect and chop the wood for us. Thanks also to the Parent’s Club for supporting this fundraiser. Craig you are a CHAMP. We really appreciated all your hard work. We raised close to $700.00. Principal For A Day- ACER (Australian Council of Educational Research) – Tuesday 3rd of September. 3 Bays Marathon Next term students from grade 1 up to grade 6 will have the opportunity to participate

in the Portland 3 Bays Marathon. The 3 Bays marathon is a wonderful local event held

on Sunday the 3rd of November. Students will be part of the Portland South team and

run a relay from start to finish in 1km blocks.

Students will be required to participate in training each week leading up to the event.

In order to be eligible for the team the students must demonstrate their commitment

to training both during lunch sessions and PE lessons.

On the day of the event, parents will be required to drop their child off at a common

meeting place and the children will be bused around the course. Parents will also be

required to pick up their child at the finish line (Henty Hotel). More information will be

sent home at the beginning of next term.

If your child is interested in participating, please

fill out the form below and return to school by

Friday the 6th of September (end of week 8).

This will give me time to organise the transport

Kind Regards,

Hannah Menzel

Principal For A Day Australian Council For Educational Research

Next Tuesday, we will be welcoming Cr Anita Rank, the Mayor of the Glenelg Shire to Portland South

Primary School. Mayor Rank will step out of the council chambers and into Mrs Fisher’s principal seat

for the 19th annual Principal For A Day event on 3rd September 2019.

Principal For A Day offers a first-hand experience of a ‘day in the life’ of a Victorian government school

principal.

Mrs Fisher says the event provides mutual benefits for schools and business/community leaders. “We

are excited to welcome Mayor Anita Rank to our school and we look forward to exchanging ideas, visit-

ing classes, talking to students and taking part in ‘normal’ daily activities.”

“Principal For A Day provides us with an excellent opportunity to enable Mayor Rank to gain unique

insights into the learning environment at our school.”

Being involved in the Principal for a Day program offers an insight into the future of education and ena-

bles us to work together, share skills, and build an ongoing relationship.

The ‘Principal For A Day’ initiative aims to:

increase understanding and awareness between schools, business and the wider community

promote the work of schools

provide business and community leaders with first-hand and current experiences of schools

enable school principals to develop ongoing relationships with leaders from other spheres

increase opportunities for schools and the community to work together in mutually beneficial ways.

We are really looking forward to participating in the Principal For A Day initiative next Tuesday. It will

be wonderful to have Mayor Rank visit our fantastic school.
