Museum Planetarium Seats Each seat in our new Beazley Planetarium costs $400.

We were very fortunate to have area Rotary clubs

donate over half of the funding needed. Twenty- four

out of sixty-four seats remain unsold. Please consider

this great opportunity for naming rights for a loved

one, special event or a gift for friends and family.

Children’s Museum Endowment

The Portsmouth Museums Foundation

Fund for the Children’s Museum was

established at the Hampton Roads

Community Foundation in 2009. All gifts

toward the endowment will be matched

dollar for dollar by the Batten

Educational Fund. This fund will provide ongoing

support to the Children’s Museum of Virginia and is in

addition to the $1,000,000 gift from the Batten

Endowment Challenge.

This match has become a priority for our board

members. An Endowment for this wonderful facility is

part of our legacy to the City of Portsmouth and all of

Hampton Roads.

Please make any

contributions payable to

In 2005 the Elizabeth River Run (ERR)

moved to Portsmouth and the event has

grown each year with over 1,200 runners in

2012. The Tidewater Striders partnered

with the Portsmouth Museums Foundation

to bring the ERR to Portsmouth on the

Saturday of Memorial Day weekend.

The ERR begins and ends at the N’Telos

Pavilion with participants running along the

Elizabeth River on the seawall down

Crawford and into the Naval Regional

Medical Center. This very popular 10K

draws many runners outside of the

Hampton Roads region. The Crawford

Street Mile and Children’s Museum Fun Run

are added fun venues for children and

those who don’t run in the 10K.

To date the Portsmouth Museums Foundation has received a total of

$55,555 through the partnership with the Tidewater Striders. The ERR

has been a huge success and great contributor to the Children’s Museum

of Virginia.
