The Nigel Holmes Glamour Posing Guide

A long historyI created the first posing guide way back in 1987,and since then it has been re-printed over and overagain. In that time it has sold many thousands ofcopies all over the world.

This is its third incarnation, and it seems to getbigger each time. The first issue was just a smallsixteen-page booklet with only the posing section. After the success of that, we published a thickersixty-four-page edition, with more general posinginformation included. Now here is the third edition. This time in A4 size.

The idea started from a small notebook that I puttogether to help me when I first started out. Iscribbled notes and drew little stick men (or women)so that I could remember good poses and use themduring future sessions. What you have here is a tidyversion of some of that original notebook.

How to use this guide. The first section of this book covers many of therules of posing glamour models. Those pages arejust intended as a guide to give you grounding in theart of posing.

At the end of the book you will find the posing ideas.Pages of small matchstick like drawings that giveyou poses to select from and use in your ownsession.

Look through these sketches before your modelarrives, and select a few ideas. I personally transfermy selection to a small card that I can keep out ofsight, either in my pocket or beside the camera. Theidea is that my model doesn’t know that I’m using a“crib sheet” and thinks what a clever person she’sworking with.

Another method that several people use is to be “upfront” about it all. Admitting that they hadn’t got aclue, and showing the model the drawings in theguide. Actually this works very well if the model isinexperienced. The drawings are done in such away that she can instantly see what you are after, which saves a lot of time.
