POSITION ANNOUNCEMENT PRINCIPAL Lake Stevens High School Position Summary The principal is responsible for providing leadership, support, direction and accountability. This includes effective communication, the supervision and evaluation of staff, coordination of the instructional program, responsibility for other administrative duties as assigned, and the promotion of the educational development of each student. The principal will also work to achieve the goals identified in district’s Foundation for Excellence. Qualification Requirements Must hold or be able to obtain a valid Washington State Principal’s certificate prior to start of work year • Skills in instructional leadership and mentoring • Experience and knowledge with the Common Core and other state standards, curriculum alignment, school improvement planning and data-driven decision-making • Knowledge of school law and finance, state and federal legislation, personnel practices and technology • Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with students, peers and parents; skill in oral and written communication. Salary and Benefits The district offers a competitive salary of $131,334 to $139,332 DOE and a comprehensive benefit package. The work year is 223 days with 12 holidays and 25 vacation days. About Lake Stevens High School Lake Stevens High School (LSHS) is the ninth-largest high school in the state of Washington with 1,619 students in grades 10-12. Lake Stevens School District is proud to have the highest on-time graduation rate of any school district in Snohomish County. In August we will launch a 1:1 Chromebook Program for all students. These educational tools will be used in class and at home. Staff LSHS has 85 certificated teachers and support professionals assisted by 70 paraeducators and support staff, guided by one principal and four associate principals. On average LSHS teachers have 16 years of teaching experience and more than 69 percent have a master’s degree.

StudentsAlthough large, the high school’s student body keeps a close family feeling through an impressive number of activities and athletics. LSHS has more than 35 clubs and 20 varsity athletic teams. Last school year, 576 students participated in athletics and more than 300 participated in clubs.

Assessment scoresLSHS has a tradition of academic excellence by scoring above state averages in all academic areas. LSHS reading scores are 6.5 percent above state average. In the area of reading 89.1 percent of students meeting state standard. LSHS writing scores are 5.4 percent above the state average with 90.7 percent of students meeting state standard. In math, students exceed state average in the End-of-Course (EOC) Algebra Exam by 6.7 percent with a passage rate of 85.9 percent and exceeded the state average in EOC 2 Geometry with 81 percent of our students passing the state assessments. In science, students continue to post scores that are substantially above state average. Student scores exceeded the state with 88 percent passing state assessments. This is 18 percent above the state average.

FacilityLake Stevens High School was built in 1979 and completed a major addition and remodel in 1996. In February 2016, Lake Stevens voters approved a $116 million school construction bond, which includes major renovation and expansion of LSHS. Construction will begin in 2018 will happen in phases while students and staff are on campus. Beginning this fall, staff members and students will be engaged in a pre-design process with the selected architect and a planning team. For more information, visit the school district website.
