Dynamic Positioning (DP) Position Reference Systems
PURPOSETo obtain knowledge in practicaluse, limitation and restriction of Position Reference Systems forDynamic Positioning. AcceptingAuthority is the Nautical Institute,London.
CONTENT Practical knowledge of planning,
conducting and executing theuse and selection of positionreference systems for differentDP operations
Differential GPS/GLONASS:The participants will acquiregeneral information of thedifferent types of DGPS systemsand they will learn how toconfigure and operate thesystems. Further they will learn
basic maintenance andtroubleshooting. External systeminterface for receivingdifferential and ionospherecorrections is explained and theparticipants will further performexercises both on simulators andlive equipment
Hydro acoustic: HPR and HiPAP®:The participants will acquirebasic background knowledgeabout Hydro Acoustic PositionReference (HPR) principles andhow to perform Super ShortBase Line (SSBL) positioning
and Long Base Line (LBL)positioning. They will furtherperform basic SSBL and LBLsystem operations at their owndemo computer with standardAPOS software
Fanbeam ® MDL / RADIUS ® :
The participants will acquirebasic background knowledgeabout Fanbeam® and Radius ®principles and how to performsetup of the system. They willfurther perform Fanbeam®system operation at their owndemo computer with standardFanbeam® software andexercise on live Radius ®equipment
Light Taut Wire:The participants will acquire
basic background knowledgeabout LTW principles and learnhow to operate the system. Theywill further obtain knowledgeregarding maintenance andlimitations of the system
Outline of the current nationaland international rules andregulations
The optimal use and limitationsof various position referencesystems
OBJECTIVES To provide training in position
reference systems for DPSystems
To apply the required theoreticalknowledge in the use of differentposition reference systems for
DP Systems
To apply the practical training inthe use of different positionreference systems for DPSystems by means of both liveand simulation equipment
ADMISSION REQUIREMENTSCompetence as watch-keeping deckofficer with at least one tour of dutyon a Dynamic Positioning (DP)operated vessel and have worked inpositions where basic knowledge
about DP operations has beenobtained.
DURATION5 days
