In school year 2012-13 the Academy of Aviation and Transportation will be offered at Suitland High School.
The chart lists the middle schools that feed into Suitland High School. The Academy will only serve the boundary high school area.

Students will learn to assess damage and make decisions regarding repairs and replacement of parts.

uAutomotive Technician
Students in the automotive technician program learn how to diagnose and repair components in the engine, transmission, and transaxle systems of automotive vehicles.
Working under the hood and using computerized diagnostic equipment and specialty tools, students use their knowledge of engines, critical thinking, and problem solving skills to maintain and repair cars and trucks.
Recommended Electives: Business Organization and Management, Entrepreneurship, World Languages, Computer Applications, Financial Literacy, Accounting.
uAutomotive Body Repair
The automotive body repair program prepares students to use technical manuals and knowledge of vehicle construction, along with specialized tools and repair techniques, to straighten components, replace parts, and restore vehicle bodies to their original specifications.
The work ranges from repairing minor damage like a dent or scrape to replacing complex parts after a major collision.
Academy Overview
The Academy of Aviation and Transportation will provide students the opportunity to enhance their high school education by building a foundation in the growing fields of aviation and transportation through a partnership between industry and education.
Students are introduced to numerous career opportunities in automotive repair and aviation. The Academy provides students the necessary tools to make informed and intelligent choices about their futures.
Programs of Study
The Academy of Aviation and Transportation currently features the following three programs of study:
uAir Traffic Control
Students in this program are taught the fundamentals of air traffic control systems and operations.
They learn by doing - working with real equipment and flight and tower simulators. They interact with guest speakers and become familiar with the required FAA regulations, terminal procedures, and ATC radar systems.Critical teamwork, decision making, and CRM skills are emphasized.
Recommended Electives: Calculus and Physics.
