“Lifeforce was delighted to be involved with Vitality Expo in its inaugural year, it was the perfect fit for Lifeforce. We look forward to continuing the excellent relationship with

the event for 2019 and beyond.

As Lifeforce continues to grow in the Irish market, we want to build lasting relationships with our target market.

Vitality Expo was the perfect opportunity to meet with and strengthen these key relationships with the right

consumers and trade professionals.

Lifeforce was founded in Dublin in 1977 and since then has maintained the philosophy to provide foods just as nature intended. Foods that will not just nourish you but help you to achieve your full potential in life - whatever that may be! Vitality Expo helped Lifeforce introduce or

reintroduce consumers and trade to the Lifeforce brand.”

KitchenAid sponsored the Food and Cookery Stage at this years Vitality Expo, it was a great opportunity for us to meet the right consumers

as we expand our product range outside of baking, particularly into the Health and

Wellbeing category with our range of Power Blenders.

We had an opportunity to speak to many visitors who are considering their health and

nutrition as a number one priority and are therefore making this a daily consideration and are willing to invest in products which

make this easier for them.

Women faring worsethan men in a nationof couch potatoes

NEARLY four in 10 Irishwomen are risking theirhealth by not exercisingenough, a global study revealstoday.More than a quarter of men

are also failing to clock upenough physical activity.Ireland is ranked high

among high-income countrieswith toomany couch potatoes. Our sedentary habits are

leaving us at higher risk of arange of diseases, according tothe ‘Lancet Global Health’journal. It found worldwide there

has been no improvement inlevels of physical activity since2001.People need at least 150

minutes of moderate aerobicactivity, such as cycling orbrisk walking, everyweek. They should also aim to do

strength exercises, on two ormore days a week, that workall the major muscles includ-ing legs, hips, back, abdomen, chest, shoulders and arms.More than a quarter of the

world’s adult population –some 1.4 billion – are notactive enough, putting them atgreater chance of developingcardiovascular disease, type 2diabetes, dementia and cancer. The study by the World

Health Organisation (WHO)found 32.7pc of the Irishpopulation are inactive.

It compares with 49pc in theUS and 36pc in the UK.But it is as high as 37.1pc

among women and 28.3pc formen in this country.Womenwere less active than

men in all regions of theworld, apart from east andsouth-east Asia.Overall, in high-income

western countries 42pc ofwomen are inactive comparedwith 31pc of men.The data shows that if cur-

rent trends continue, then wewill fail to meet a global activ-

ity target of a 10pc relativereduction in insufficient phys-ical activity by 2025.The new study is based on

self-reported activity levels. It includes activity at work

and at home, for transport, andduring leisure time, in adultsaged 18 years and older from358 population-based surveysin 168 countries, including 1.9million participants. In four countries, more than

half of adults were insuffi-ciently active – Kuwait (67pc),American Samoa (53pc), SaudiArabia (53pc), and Iraq (52pc).Countries with the most

active populations wereUganda and Mozambique,

with 94pc reaching targets.“Addressing inequalities inphysical activity levelsbetweenmen andwomenwillbe critical to achieving globalactivity targets,” said Dr FionaBull, of theWHO.“It will require interventions

to promote and improvewom-en’s access to opportunitiesthat are safe, affordable andculturally acceptable.”In wealthier countries, the

transition towards more sed-entary occupations, recreationand the car could explain thehigher levels of inactivity. The getirelandactive.ie web-

site has a public database ofsports and recreation facilities.Experts advise that walking

is an easy way to get moreexercise. They recommend try-ing to keep fit by ditching thecar for short journeys, walkingall or part of your journey towork, getting off the bus ortrain a stop early, and planninglongerwalks at weekends.Deirdre McDonald, aWeight

Watchers coach in Carlowwholost three stone, said she fre-quently has to try to motivatepeople who are in a no-exer-cise rut to get back movingagain.“I urge them to start by find-

ing find ways to make it a partof their day. Do 10 minutes inthemorning. If you say to exer-cise for an hour it is moredaunting. Do another 10 min-utes at lunchtime. That’s 20minutes clocked up.”

Over the lastmonth, youmay have seenpictures of KimKardashianwearingskintight, screaming lime

from head to toe — enough to sendanyone over the age of 25 running amile from a trend. The reality star has embraced

neon in its loudest, brashest form, but you don’t have to go for latex orhighlighter shades to try the lookfor yourself.Because neon shades are back —

on the catwalks and in shops. Inthe autumn-winter collections, thedominant moodwas athletic: MarcJacobs presented an 80s-inspiredoversized power suit in orangewith a hot pink bumbag, and atPrada, heritage tweedwas mixedwith neon tulle and nylon, in

sporty shapes, socks and logos, asseen on PoppyDelevingne (right). But it’s not all athleisure — Brandon

Maxwell andValentino offered redcarpet-worthy gowns, including aturquoise and lime show-stopper thatFrances McDormandwore to the MetGala this year.Narciso Rodriguez made the case for

neon at work, pairing draped blouseswith high-waisted trousers, and ToryBurch presented office-readymididresses with scarf-tie detailing. For your off-dutywardrobe, Prabal

Gurung and Ulla Johnson showcasedneon knitwear, and in outerwear, there

was Carolina Herrera’s yellowwoolcoat andMoschino’s magenta cape —another trend set to rule this winter. If you’re keen to try it out, skip the

full-on fluoro for small doses. Sculpturalearrings will instantly refresh an LBD,or pick up a vibrant cross-body bag forcasual wear.Use shades of watermelon, lemon,

orange and lime as an accent withshades of black, navy, white or grey, orfor a cool contemporary look, diffuseneon brights with this season’s neutrals.A raspberry silk blouse will provide abeautiful contrast with a camel coat andwide-leg trousers.Block-colour neons can function as

a striking base for prints, too. A zestygreen jumper offers an unexpected popof colourwith a floral midi skirt in tonalshades, or try a pink roll-neckwith achecked suit. Now is the ideal time to wear—

luminous shades go particularlywellwith a post-holiday glow— but thesepieces will see you through the seasonand help to bring a jolt of sunshine intodull winter days. For a more mature look, opt for a

midi dress or smart separates. BlakeLively (left) gives the trouser suit trendan update in shocking limeVersace, althoughwewould suggest toningit downwith a morewearable coral. It’s easier on the eye, particularly forworkwear, and it’s more flattering onthose who don’t have Hollywood skintones.Tibi’s suit is also more straightforward

to style — offset the vivid huewith adelicate pastel shirt.

and she looks at it, hasn’t even tasted it,and she’ll say ‘I’m not eating that, don’tlike it’. Youwant to bang your head offthe wall, because you’ve had a busyday. Nothing’s perfect —we have thisamazing daughter, but it’s not like shenever asks me for sweets or neverrefuses vegetables. We have thesame challenges all other parentshave, and I think that helps peoplerelate to us,” Grainne explains.Dominic adds: “People are maybe

Beyond the‘10-minute workout to knockyourself into shape’, we needsome concrete sciencebehind it.Who better to talkabout stress and resiliencethan Grainne, who has worked incorporate life for 20 years and had a lot ofmajor challenges to overcome?“I’m a sports scientist, and that’s a

massive difference from someonewho hasdone an eight-week or a

will be delivering a one-hour seminar intwo parts. Grainne’s segment is ‘Why beingstressed-out and sleepless doesn’t have tobe the new norm’, while Dominic looks at‘Sensible, sustainable’ workouts.“We’ll be going throughwhat we do
