Record labelsThis is the new record label that I have produced for the distribution of my star’s music. I think that the name suits the genre and type of music that will be produced; traditional R&B music is about bling (subtle) and luxury. I believe that my design clearly shows that purpose of the record label.I named it majestic because it thought that it stood out from other record labels that have been formed from conglomerates like Sony or Universal.

I used the colour purple because it symbolizes prosperity and wealth; the positioning of the curved rectangle and the crown piece put on top acts as a crown. And this works well to make it look like a crown. I used serif font to add elements of antiquity to the label.

Which record label is likely to distribute my production?

I believe that RCA (Division of Sony) is likely to have my artist on their label because this record label is known to have many R&B/Pop artists on their record label that have produced music that have sold millions of copies. Artists include Justin Timberlake, Chris Brown, Brittany Spears, Alicia Keys, Miguel, Miley Cyrus, PharrellWilliams and many more R&B/Pop artist.

Album advert During the creation of my magazine poster, I was inspired by Rihanna’s ‘Loud’ album poster, which featured a picture of Rihanna in a long shot, then the front cover of her album at in the middle of the poster. I found it very effective because it gave you the chance to see two aspects of the star. It was different to typical Pop R&B album adverts; they usually had the image on the cover of the album to advertise the album. Personally I did not find that way of promotion very creative or effective, as we the audience would like to see more than one image of the star. The audience theory of voyeurism is embrace through the layout of my album poster, I have also used the rule of thirds to appeal to the human eye.

To promote my artist on different social media channels, I have listed the different platforms that she can be found on e.g. Facebook, twitter, Instagram and YouTube. To encourage the audience to purchase the album, I have included a logo that states that the album is available on iTunes on 21st of July. I have also included the record label at the bottom. I have followed all the codes and conventions of Pop R&B album posters. Following these conventions has also allowed to tap into the target audience; young people.

Title of the artist’s name in handwritten like font. This is a convention of Pop R&B artists, as they want to create their own signature look. This can be seen in the print work of Ciara, Jessie J and Nicki Minaj. I have used the same font in the digipak and in the music video- this helps create synergy between the three texts; it makes audiences immediately recognise the work of the artist.

The title of the album has been displayed right under the name. This suggests to the audience that the artist’s image is stronger than her music. She is not a song writer, she is a performer. This can be seen in the work of Rihanna and Beyonce; their names are always bigger than the title of the album. Draws more attention to artist’s image than work. This is part of the star construction for Alexis Banks.

Baby blue background acts as clouds/skies, seeing as the album is titled Daydream. It also makes the artist appear as a baby faced teen- usually older Pop R&B artists use darker colours such as red, black to convey their sexualisation to their audiences. The use of light pastel like colours appeals to the younger audiences, because it conveys innocence and youth.

I have also changed the font of the album text, this is a convention of Pop R&B artists/albums, it helps shape their star construction. It is in white which compliments the light blue background, the font is skinnier and works well to have on the poster; its not too dominate a=or striking. I did this because I want my audience to be directly drawn to the artist, instead of the album.

I have included reviews and ratings; this usually makes audiences buy the album if it has received good reviews from well respected organizations.Another thing that I have included in my poster is other promotions like; “Includes the #1 single”- if the audience enjoyed the single, than are more likely to purchase the album.

The artist is seen in a mid-long shot wearing a shot black dress with sunglasses on and red lips. Audiences may be confused by her accessory; and perceive her as an indie artist. But she is a Pop R&B artists, I dressed her with sunglasses on to add emphasis on the season that the album will be released- the summer.

On the album cover she is wearing a black leather jacket, which is a convention of Pop R&B artists; it suggests that they are trying to change from being a teen to becoming young adult- two juxtaposing roles. This can also be identified in the album poster; the colours of the background look innocent but, but she is dressed in a way that positions her through the male gaze, suggesting to us that this artist is coming of age.
