WelcomeWelcome to Cardiff University for our Postgraduate Open Day. The Open Day gives you a great opportunity to meet staff and current postgraduate students and find out about more than 300 study options, funding opportunities, accommodation and much more. We hope you enjoy the day!

Key InformationFilming and PhotographyWe will be filming and taking photographs throughout the day to record the event. Footage and images collected may be used by Cardiff University and its partners in print and online for educational and promotional use only. Copyright of images rests with Cardiff University.

Food and DrinkRefreshments will be available from a pop-up café at the Open Day, you can find these on the first floor in Marble Hall. City Hall is also short walk from the city centre which boasts lots of cafes and restaurants. There is also a Costa Coffee and Subway next to the Students’ Union on Park Place.

Free wi-fiYou are welcome to use City Hall’s free Wi-Fi. Just select the network Cardiff Free Wi-Fi on your device and register.

SafetyPlease adhere to all notices and instructions from staff during the day. In the event of an emergency, please contact the nearest member of staff. If the fire alarm sounds, trained Fire Wardens will evacuate visitors. Lifts must not be used in the event of a fire.

Specific needsIf you have specific mobility needs, please speak to a member of staff who will be happy to assist you. We have a limited number of car parking spaces for visitors with access needs. These can be reserved at the time of booking or by contacting (029) 2087 0084.

UCU industrial actionYou may be aware that the UCU trade union, which represents staff in the higher education sector, is currently conducting industrial action at universities across the UK as part of a national dispute over pay, pensions and working conditions. The final day of strike action will coincide with the Postgraduate Open Day and there is the potential for some disruption. However, we expect the impact on our Open Day to be minimal. We are not currently aware of any changes or cancellations to the published event programme. If changes or cancellations do occur, we will let you know as soon as possible to ensure minimum disruption to your day.

Funding your postgraduate study If you aren’t yet sure how you’d fund your postgrad studies, make sure you attend one of our 25-minute ‘How to fund your master’s’ talks taking place at 10:50 and 13:25 in Ferrier Hall. Here you’ll find out all about the different funding packages available, including our Master’s Excellence Scholarship scheme.

Meet current postgraduate students Find out more about postgrad life at Cardiff from those who know best, our current postgrad students. From study commitments to sports clubs, accommodation options to favourite hangouts, our students will fill you in on everything you need to know. Chat to them at the ‘Meet our students’ stand in the Assembly Room from 10:00 – 15:00.

Talk to staff from our academic schools Whether you already know what programme you want to study or you’re considering a number of options, our staff will be on hand to answer your questions. Take a look at our Plan of Assembly Room on page 12-13 to see where our academic schools can

be found. Some of the schools will also be holding specialist talks today: see pages 7-9 to find out more.

Our Doctoral Academy is the hub of interdisciplinary postgraduate researcher activities at Cardiff University; offering a central source for our researchers to access

personal, professional and research skills development services. Representatives from our Doctoral Academy will be on hand in the PhD Information Lounge so that you can find out all about the thriving researcher community in Cardiff.
