DHU is committed to developing interdisciplinary talents with solid theoretical foundation in their study

fields and broad international perspectives, so that they can adopt their knowledge and abilities by

developing integrated understanding of the industry’s present and future, and have strong competitive

advantages in relevant careers and positions. DHU also puts efforts to, with providing systematic

Chinese language courses, cultural lectures and exchange activities, enable international students to

embrace the Chinese culture and society more fully and become international talents with multicultural

background. International postgraduates who attend English-taught programs are required to acquire

HSK Certificate (at least level 3) when graduate from Donghua University. After completing the study

tasks according to the school regulations, and passing the course examinations and thesis defense,

students will be awarded graduation certificates. For those who meet the qualification requirements

will be awarded diploma certificates.

In 1912, a famous industrialist in Chinese history founded the predecessor of current Donghua University

– Nantong College, and it formally became an academic institute of textile science and technology in 1951.

In 1985, the institute was renamed as China Textile University.

With its development in the next several decades it has grown as a public multidisciplinary university

directly under the Ministry of Education of China and one of the Project 211 universities. Before stepping

into the new century, the name was changed to Donghua University (hereinafter referred to as DHU).

WHYDHUAs early as 1954, DHU commenced to accept

international students who were among the

first group of oversea students enrolled by

Chinese universities. It has been appointed to

accept international students either with Chinese

Government Scholarship or Shanghai Government

Scholarship. Besides, DHU sets up ‘Outstanding

International Student Scholarship’ to encourage

excellent enrolled international students.

This program was initiated in 2015. Professors from different academic schools take a group of international students to visit the local enterprises 3 to 4 times per semester. In-depth visits help students learn the practices of operation, production and technology application in the related industry development.

Since 2009, Donghua University has cooperated with more than 100 companies and organizations to offer internships or practice opportunities for international students. Now, more than 30 of them have become the 'Donghua University International Student Internship Base'.

With the encouragement and facilitation from their supervisors, international students broadened their horizens, enhanced academic capacities, and widened interpersonal connections by attending the related conferences and competitions.

Issues for International Students Enrolled at

ICES offers pick-up service for the newcomers

arrive at either Terminal 1 or Terminal 2 of Pudong

International Airport (PVG). Volunteers will wait near

the exit of International Arrival of two Terminals

and send you to the coach that will set out from

PVG at 10:00, 15:00 and 19:00 back to the campus.

This service will be offered only on the designated

days. If missed, please come to the campus by

yourself.

International Student Apartments (ISAs) are located on Yan’an road campus and Songjiang campus. Accommodation fees must be paid by one semester (about 140 days) in one lump sum at check-in. Make the reservation while filling the online application form.

Facilities: Each room is equipped with bathroom (except some rooms on Songjiang Campus), bedding, furniture, air-conditioner, fridge, TV set, etc. In the public areas, there are washing machines, hot & cold water dispensers, microwave ovens, electromagnetic stoves, as well as common room, professional laundry service, self-study lounge, etc.

There are several furniture layouts in the apartments. The pictures are for reference only.

Water & Electricity: There is a sufficient monthly quota for

free, only the excess will be charged.

Internet: Apply for 24-hours’ internet in your room separately

3) Then, complete the following steps to accomplish your application to DHU :

First, check if DHU offers the academic program you plan to learn. If there is, send a simple inquiry email

to ices@dhu.edu.cn, including “Pre-admission Letter” in the subject and the academic program you plan

to learn in the content. Then you will receive the Application Form of Pre-admission Letter. Complete this

application form and email it back with the complete electronic application materials required (refer to the

following pages). Please be aware that it takes at least two weeks to receive the result. If DHU agrees to

accept you, the pre-admission letter will be issued and sent to you by email.

Application Procedure

The official review of the self-funded application takes around one month. Then the final result will be informed to the applicants by an email from May through July. The official review of CSC & SGS scholarship application takes around two months; Then three different final results (1~3) and one temporary result (4) will be announced and informed to all the applicants by email: 1. refused 2. accepted by DHU as a self-funded student 3. accepted by DHU as a SGS-A or SGS-B student 4. recommended as a CSC candidate but need to wait for the final approval from the Chinese government. Final result from CSC will then be informed by DHU to each scholarship recipients in August.

Students who are accepted by DHU either by self-fund or with scholarships must reply the email to confirm whether they accept the result or not before the designated deadline in the email.

After receiving the replied email confirmation, one’s admissions documents will be prepared and sent by express (or collected by oneself). If the sending of admission documents fails due to invalid, incorrect or unspecific contact information provided, applicants themselves shall bear the responsibilities. A conditional Admission Letter will be issued to the applicant who gains approval from DHU but still has certain document(s) pending. Then one must submit the required documents before/on the designated enrollment date in order to bring the admission letter into effect; otherwise DHU will withdraw the admission.   The admitted students shall not allowed to change their host university, field of study (major/program), teaching language, duration of study, or the source of funding stipulated on the Admission Letter. Late enrollment is not permitted.

Jan. – Feb.Check if DHU offers the master’s/Doctoral program you plan to learn. Refer to the program lists on the previous pages or visit english.dhu.edu.cn/graduate.

Pay special attention to the program’s teaching language and its proficiency requirement, as well as if the program is covered by any government scholarships – if you plan to apply for the CSC/SGS scholarships.

Start to prepare the application materials required to be submitted according to the check list on the following pages.

Before the application deadline (Mar. 31 / Jun. 15)Fill your online application at admissions.dhu.edu.cn. Complete all the blanks of the Personal Info and upload your ID photo and passport page, as well as the Academic Info (Bachelor/Master/Ph.D). Then your online application status will be “Submitted”.

For scholarships applicants, before apply to DHU, please fill CSC online application at www.campuschina.org or SGS online application at study.shmec.gov.cn.

Please make sure the email address you filled in Personal Info is sole and absolutely correct, for through which DHU will keep in touch with the applicant.

Each applicant can only select ONE program/major. Repeat applications will be refused automatically.

Before the application deadline (Mar. 31 / Jun. 15)Send by express or in person one set of the hard copies of the complete application materials required (refer to the following pages) to DHU's International Student Admissions Department (Office 121). Track the express status by yourself to ensure your application materials package will arrive before the application deadline. DHU will send a package delivery confirmation via e-mail. Then, your online application status will become “To Be Reviewed”.

After receiving the package delivery confirmation email, please go back to your online application account in order to pay the application fee online within the designated period with UnionPay card, Master Card, AliPay or Wechat Pay.

Application fee can also be paid in person with RMB cash or UnionPay card at office of International Cultural Exchange School.

Application materials and application fee will not be returned under any circumstances. DHU reserves the right to require the supplementary materials.

ONLY AFTER finish the previous step 2 to 4 before the deadline, your application will be considered accomplished. Then DHU will start rounds of official review on your application. Meanwhile, your online application status will be "Under Review".

The official review includes the academic reviews from the respective colleges and relevant academic departments of DHU. Interview may be required. For CSC & SGS scholarships applications, “Donghua University Government Scholarship Review Meeting” will be held in May as well.

For applicants of Fine Arts & Design Studies, it is required to submit original latest art or design works strictly according to the following requirements:

- Including one pencil sketch, one color painting, one design rendering (for fashion related, it must be ladies' wear or mens' wear). All works must be in the size of 360mm*260mm.

* Students who are admitted to art and design related majors will take a painting or design test before enrollment. If results are inconsistent with the works submitted for application, DHU reserves the right to withdraw the admission.

Remarks Applicants who have submitted copies of certificates are required to take the originals for verification on the enrollment day. If the copies submitted are inconsistent with the originals, DHU reserves the right to withdraw the admission.

The advanced scholar applicants need to submit the same documents, along with the official certificate/letter issued by a university that proves having learned for at least one year.

Remarks

Applicants who have submitted copies of certificates are required to take the originals for verification on the enrollment day. If the copies submitted are inconsistent with the originals, DHU reserves the right to withdraw the admission.

Back to the point, I am really honored to be one of the recipients of CSC

Scholarship. Donghua is no doubt an educational institute with highly

experienced teachers, labs equipped with latest testing instruments and a

giant library to quench the thirst of book lovers. Being far away from home,

however soon I realized that it’s just like my own home. DHU has a very big

international students’ family lodging, studying, enjoying, sharing culture

are really doing great by arranging get together, parties, trainings, trips,

volunteer work and many more. Donghua University doesn’t enrich the

students only with the knowledge inside the classroom rather it provides

chance to do internships, industrial visits, workshops etc. as well. In short

In my undergraduate program I studied Regional-studies China and spend

two years in Beijing, learning the Chinese language. After a gap year in

Russia, I finally made my way back to China. Donghua University is located

in the heart of Shanghai and is a great place to engage in business related

studies. The campus is modern, has a friendly atmosphere and is equipped

with sport facilities. Teachers are highly qualified with most possessing an

international education background.

In my master course, we are 13 students from 12 different countries.

This allows for a vivid exchange of ideas and a widening of your cultural

horizon. In class, we do not only focus on academic issues but also on

the practical aspects of business, which is crucial for a MIB student. We

visit companies and learn how business is conduct in various fields,

with a special focus on China and international exchange. Apart from an

academic life, Donghua offers countless activities that you can take part in.

It never gets boring around here, come and join us!

Life is full of surprises and you never know how things will turn out. I still

remember how I felt when I received the admission notice from Donghua.

Time flies, I’ve been in Donghua University, Shanghai for the seventh year.

The advantage I can speak fluent Chinese makes me adapt to the study and

life here faster. Therefore, I joined ISA and RA of ICES to help international

students who have just arrived Shanghai and also organizing events and

activities, such as sports activities, talent competition and more. ICES also

offers many practical opportunities and activities for students to contact

and understand Chinese culture. In addition, ICES also organize language

excursion activities to visit the other places, besides enjoying the scenery,

it provides the best opportunities to learn, to know, and to understand the

local life.

China has a saying, “rely on parents at home, rely on friends outside.” I’m

grateful to my family, teachers, friends, classmates for their help. My life is

getting better because of you all. I appreciate the opportunity given by DHU,

"After graduating from the university back in my country I was looking for the

opportunities abroad, I was considering which country and university I should

choose. I made up my mind to come to China - to study and seek for my

master’s degree in Computer Sciences here. At first, I didn’t feel very confident,

because I came to a new environment, had to experience different cultures.

Luckily, Donghua University is a special place – they did everything to make

all the newcomers feel very comfortable. With the help of teachers, advisors

and classmates I felt that I’ve found my second home. Even though, my field of

study is not easy, I was enjoying sitting in classrooms and listening to lecturers.
