Bessie Smith - St. Louis Blues (1929)

• Blues singer Bessie Smith appeared in a two-reel short film called St. Louis Blues (1929) featuring a dramatized performance of the hit song. It was shown in theatres until 1932. Numerous other musicians appeared in short musical subjects during this period. Later, in the mid-1940s

• IT shows Bessie mainly but it does show shots of the musicians and backing singers later on in the video

The Beatles "Let It Be" Film – (1970)

• Shows the band and helpers setting up the stage and instruments before the performance. Makes it seem more like real life and less like a performance. It doesn't really have a narrative

Queen - I want to break free 1984

• This shows postmodernism as it is a parody of stereo typical housewives life, it also shows the theory of ‘play’ as it shows them cross dressing.

Britney Spears - Baby One More Time

• Hit artist of the 1990’s. This video takes the view of the typical school girl and glamorizes it. It’s a slight parody of the way a young school girl should dress and behave. This song has a narrative that matches the lyrics

Destiny's Child - Say My Name

• Realised in 2000• http://

www.youtube.com/watch?v=cSQF7wmLJDw&ob=av2n

• This video has a little narrative but the majority of it is staying in a room and the colours changing. There seems to be a lot of play with the room colours and outfits

• This video incorporates with film ‘Moulin Rouge’. There is more of a performance than a strong narrative although the costumes fit the meaning of the song and the film.

• 2004• http://

www.youtube.com/watch?v=IKqV7DB8Iwg&ob=av2e

• This video includes a live performance and a hell of a lot of effects and editing. You can see a major step up from the ‘Lady Marmalade’s technology.

Nelly Furtado - Maneater

• 2006• http://

www.youtube.com/watch?v=PLolag3YSYU&ob=av2e

• This video has a relatively noticeable narrative. But it seems less technical than the ‘black eyed peas’ video.

Missy Elliott 'Ching-A-Ling' Step Up 2: The Streets (3D video)

• This show’s a great development in the videos age. It is one of the first 3D videos to be made. The choreography within the video fits the music of the song, but doesn't really have much narrative, the routines look really fun, interesting and different with implies the use of ‘play’.
