POTA 2014 ANNUAL CONFERENCE | MOVING BEYOND COMPETENCE TO EXCELLENCE

Pennsylvania Occupational Therapy Association 1

Greetings to all Conference Participants!

On behalf of the POTA Board of Directors, welcome to King of Prussia and to our 37th Annual

Conference! We are thrilled with this year’s impressive turnout of occupational therapy practitioners, educators and students. Our two-day agenda includes the most successful features of previous conferences, and, again this year, new opportunities to amplify the conference experience and celebrate with others in the occupational therapy community.

This year’s Program Committee has assembled a roster of educational sessions that cover diverse topic areas and speak to multiple levels of knowledge and expertise. The “early bird” sessions (Friday at 7:30 AM and Saturday at 7:00 AM ) were well-received last year, so we included them again this year. Be sure to visit the Exhibit Hall to learn more about products, OT education programs, employers, and other resources that support your practice and your professional development. Spend some time at the posters (located beyond the Exhibit Hall) and try your luck in POTA’s ever-popular raffle, located in the Exhibit Hall. The President’s Reception from 5-6PM Friday is an unopposed time in the Exhibit Hall. Come, meet members of the POTA Board of Directors, visit Exhibitors and mingle with other conference attendees over a choice of fabulous hors d’oeuvres and a cash bar.

We received tremendous feedback about the luncheon formats we tried last year. POTA’s Annual Business Meeting runs during a portion of Friday’s sit-down luncheon. This is an important opportunity for POTA members to learn about the Association’s business and planned activity. Celebration and recognition are the focus of Saturday’s luncheon while we relax, enjoy and network with others. We will introduce and commend selected POTA members who have completed terms of service, and recognize others for their leadership and accomplishments on behalf of the profession and those we serve.

Take advantage of the many opportunities to “connect” with the profession at this conference. Be sure to say hello to our profession’s future, current occupational therapy students who make up our People Power crew (in the bright yellow/gold t-shirts). Join me in thanking POTA’s Local Conference Committee and the Commission on Conference, our presenters, exhibitors, volunteers, sponsors and donators for all of their efforts to make Conference 2014 a valuable professional development opportunity and a stellar success!

I know I speak for all members of the POTA Board of Directors - we look forward to meeting you here, and to hearing about your conference experience in the evaluation we send after you return home.

Mary Muhlenhaupt, OTD, OTR/L, FAOTA POTA President (2012-2016)

Articulating and Demonstrating the Distinct Value of Occupational Therapy Amy Lamb, OTD, OTR/L, FAOTA AOTA Vice President We open this year’s conference with recognition that the context surrounding occupational therapy practice is rapidly changing. Traditional and evolving models of care require occupational therapy to clearly articulate how we are distinctly different and demonstrate value to the systems in which we practice. Dr. Lamb will inspire us to increase our knowledge of system change, recognize opportunities, and confidently articulate the distinct difference we bring to practice and the value we add to the everyday lives of those we serve.
