IN EL SALVADOR

POVERTY

FIRST…ACCORDING TO UNITED NATIONS

POVERTY is the inability of getting choices and opportunities, a violation of human dignity. It means lack of basic capacity to participate in society.

Nonetheless, it means not having enough to feed and clothe a family, not having a school or clinic to go to, not having the land on which to grow one’s food or a job to earn one’s living, not having access to credit.

TYPE S OF POVERTY

From several author around the world, there are two main type of poverty:

1- Adsolute poverty.  Condition characterized by severe deprivation of basic human needs, including food, safe drinking water, sanitation facilities, health, shelter, education and information. It depends not only on income but also on access to services.

2-Relative poverty. Reflects better the cost of social inclusion and equality of opportunity in a specific time and space

THE CASE OF EL SALVADOR

From several authors and Worlwide Bank. Some countries could have the two kind of poverty. One case is El Salvador.

To ilustrate it, “La Prensa Gráfica” newspaper shared the following informantion:

They researched that 45.3% of the Salvadoran population lives in poverty (according to Comisión Económica para América Latina y el Caribe (CEPAL)).

Even though, the level of poverty in El Salvador is one of the highest in Latin America. Also, the poverty affects mainly children.

(These information was published in 2013)

TO SUM UP

Finally with the case of El Salvador, we could share that if the topic of poverty in our country had been seen like a main problem, we wouldn´t have been developed the poverty so much.

Though social programs or another activities the goberment could improve this problem. Due to that, we can add too that if social programs were developed by the goverment several years ago, they would not be worked with another new ideas to improve it.
