Overview of power system

DRAWBACK OF POWER SYSTEM WITHOUT SCADA

Human operators was required to monitor performance of each machine.

Power factor correction by human interference is not as precise.

Depending on human efficiency quality of work changes. Causes delay in finding problem, fault in a system.

Basics of SCADASystem

• Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) is a term used to describe the technology that enables a user to collect data from one or more distant facilities and send limited control instructions to those facilities.

• SCADA system consists mainly of the follows:1. Supervisory control and data acquisition.2. An industrial measurement and control system.3. Remote terminal unit(RTU).4. Master control unit(MTU).5. Communication system.

Application of SCADA

Typically used by utilities such as power, Oil & Gas, water

and waste management, etc.

Processes that are spread over large geographical areas,

are relatively simple to control and monitor, and require

frequent, regular, or immediate intervention.

Industries where it is difficult for human to work.

CONCEPT OF PROJECT

It contains mainly three parts: Power factor Compensation technique . Correction technique using SCADA.

Power factor correction In this proposed project model, the reactive load used is

inductive

Therefore its power factor correction is achieved by the

addition of capacitors in parallel with the connected

inductive circuits,

or applied at the switchboard or distribution

panel.

The resulting capacitive current is leading

current and is used to cancel the lagging

inductive current flowing from the supply.

Conclusions

SCADA System with Automatic Power Improvement Unit can be used to improve the efficiency of the Power Utilities by improving: Reducing the power losses. Improving the power quality. Satisfying the continuous power need of all consumers. Hence benefiting the power utilities resulting into less

revenue losses.
