Power Floats are the finishing equipments.
They are meant for leveling and finishing of the
freshly laid concrete base.It squeezes out the excess moisture so that the
concrete can set properly.
It works just like a trowel which is used for the
same purpose but requires intensive labor.
The concrete need to be finished in time before itsets hence comes the requirement of fast
execution.
It was invented by concrete finisher Morwin
Whiteman in 1929, as the labour was fed up of
finishing the concrete bed while sitting on theirknees.
They works like flowing on the surface as if they
are floating hence the name Float.
They are used for the pedestrians, floor surfaces,
etc.

Components
PAN:it consists of blade set and guard ring, it is then attached to the motor
Blades:They do the work of the trowel.
They are of galvanized iron.
Their size (dia) depends on the application, larger the size smoother will be the
surface.
They are changeable.
They are attached to the motor.
In one set there are 4 to 5 blades attached to motor.
There are one or two sets of blade depending on the application.
They are of various gauges ranging from 10 to 14
Guard Ring
It is provided around the blades to provide any accident or blades colliding into
side by walls.

Motor:Its the main component fro providing the power to the machine for rotating the
blades.
They are of various companies including Honda.
Motors are considered by their capacity and RPM, more the RPM smoother will bethe surface. Generally 125
ARM:It is attached to the guard ring for directing the movement.
It is attached opposite the direction of movement in case of edger and pedestrians
float.
In case of ride on floats it is attached to the guard ring and is available next tooperators seat for operations.
Controls:
In case of ride on power floats, the controls are provided next to the operators seat.
They are for direction speed, motor RPM.
Proximity of all basic controls provides the
utmost in safety and convenienceIt has handle on the arm which adjusts the angle of the blades.
Seat:
Its is required for the operator (in case of ride on Power Floats)

Types
EDGER:
They are walk behind power floats.
They are used for edges which are not easily approachable with bigger diameter
blades. They are for rounded sides or right angles
It consists of a set of four blades attached to the motor.
The diameter of blade set is 24 and of 14 gauge. Size 4.5 x 9
Steel rods are attached to it working as arm.
The rod has handle attached to it for holding which also has motor controls located
aside.
They are ideal for small area pours but are also designed to run along walls
It generally runs on a 4HP engine.
One complete unit weighs approx 50kgs.

Pedestrain:
They are walk behind power floats.
They are used for pedestrians and other larger areas which allow bigger blades forfast completion and more smoothness.
It consists of a set of five blades attached to the motor.
The diameter of blade set is 36 (6 x 14) or 46 (6x 18) of 10 gauge
Steel rods are attached to it working as arm.
The rod has handle attached to it for holding which also has motor controls locatedaside.
They are ideal for pedestrians and regular size areas and are also designed to run
along walls
It generally runs on a 5.5 HP(36) and 9HP (46) engine.
One complete unit weighs approx 75 to 110 kgs.

Ride-on:
These power floats are very large in size as compared to
walk behind floats, so that instead of walking operator has tosit on the float and operate it almost completely
mechanically..
They are used for floors and very larger areas which allow
bigger blades for fast completion and more smoothness.
It consists of double set of four blade attached to the motor.
The diameter of blade set is 74 or 100 of 10 gaugeA platform is designed to rest on the guard ring itself, the
operator sits on the float itself and operates it..
There is a seat for the operator and the controls like gears
etc. are provided on the either side of the seat.
They are ideal for pedestrians and regular size areas and are
also designed to run along wallsIt generally runs on a 24 HP (74) and 38HP (100) engine.
One complete unit weighs approx 300 to 650 kgs.
