Power Tools are software utilities on Dolphin and Image Kiosk devices that provide you with out-of-the-box solutions for your application development and deployment needs, such as retrieving device information, customizing the user interface, working with the registry, networking, and passing bar code data to applications.
On the device, access Power Tools by tapping Start > Power Tools.

EZConfig Suite
EZConfig is a suite of software utilities that simplifies configuration management. Device configuration data is stored in configuration files that use a custom XML format with an EXM extension represented by an icon). The EZConfig Suite manages and deploys these files to the device.
With EZConfig, you can create a configuration file, then deploy it to all the devices you manage without having to touch every device, ensuring that each device has the same default configuration.
EZConfig Suite is comprised of the EZConfig Editor and EZConfig Client.
EZConfig Editor
A utility on both the PC and the device that displays configuration files in an easy-to-read, easy-to-edit format. EZConfig Editor on the PC creates bar codes from configuration files for quick-scan deployment or saves configuration files directly to the device via Microsoft® ActiveSync®.
Both editors provide quick access to configuration information and make updating, managing, and deploying configuration files quick and easy.

Device Configuration Management
With EZConfig Suite, device configuration information is stored in configuration files that can be distributed to multiple devices at the same time. This centralizes device configuration and ensures the same configuration–without having to touch every device!
Configuration files can contain:
Radio settings for 802.11, Bluetooth™, and GSM/GPRS radios.WLAN, WWAN, and WPAN configurations, including network hardware such as printers and access points.Power management settings, including battery and external power timeouts, backlight behavior, and power out parameters.Registry settings.Configuration information for Power Tools and Demos.Custom application window settings.Full text descriptions of sections and keys.Command lines to launch applications.Command line arguments that apply launch settings.
Enforcing Defaults
Once deployed to the device, configuration settings are stored in persistent memory and applied automatically after each cold boot. This means that you can control the default configuration of devices in the field without relying on users for setup. Furthermore, you can use a quick cold boot to restore default settings after a user has corrupted the device by incorrectly altering the device configuration.
Updating the Registry
EZConfig Suite creates registry documents in the .exm file format. If you have applications or workflows that require new or different registry entries, you can create a small registry document in EZConfig Editor that contains the required settings, then deploy the file to the device via bar code. When scanned, EZConfig Client updates the registry immediately and your user can start working.

Switch the device from a WLAN to a WWAN configuration with nothing more than a bar code scan. Because the WWAN configuration information is embedded in the bar code, the user can begin working on the WWAN immediately without having to modify the device after the switch.Change or set up network printers in the field by posting a bar code on the printer. Users just scan the bar code and print.Store network printer information in persistent memory so you only have to configure the device to a printer once.Set the mechanical connector to power out temporarily, without changing the registry.

Bar Code Deployment
Bar code deployment means that devices can be configured just by scanning bar codes. You don’t need to connect the device to a PC or network to deploy configuration information. In fact, you can even configure the device to operate on a network by scanning a bar code.
EZConfig Editor on the PC embeds configuration files in bar code packages that are decoded and deployed by EZConfig Client on the device.
For maximum ease-of-use in the field, bar codes can be printed and posted where users work. Users update their devices with a quick scan and keep working. If you are managing devices in remote locations, EZConfig Editor can save bar codes as graphic files that you can distribute electronically for users to print and scan.
EZConfig bar codes feature a temporary option that modifies the current device configuration without replacing the default configuration. You could configure the device to work on an in-premise network for an afternoon, for instance, then restore the default network settings with a cold boot when the afternoon is over.

Furthermore, if you click an application icon on a locked window, EZMenu carries the locked settings forward to the next window and any window after that, effectively blocking access to the Start Menu globally. EZMenu also lets you password-protect access to the Windows Mobile shell. Using EZMenu this way, you have total control over what your users see and access.
With EZMenu, you can also:

EZMenu
EZMenu is a customizable program launcher that creates application windows that can launch menus, windows, and applications. One of the best features of EZMenu is the control it gives you over the user experience.
For instance, you can configure the device to boot to a locked Power Tools window that hides the Start Menu, OK button, and Command bar menus and limits access to applications.

SysInfo
SysInfo takes a snapshot of the device’s hardware and software configuration and displays the information in an easy-to-read Pocket® Word document.
Use SysInfo to see what’s loaded on the device such as the version number of a software program or the serial number of a hardware component.
This information can be vital for Support to resolve problems but mean nothing to the end-user. SysInfo provides a quick and easy way for the user to provide Support with the information they need.
SysInfo also helps development teams see what’s loaded on the device at-a-glance. In addition, all the information in SysInfo can be retrieved via API calls and used within an application.
For added convenience, the SysInfo document can even be saved as a text file (“sysinfo.txt”) and emailed to the systems administrator, for example, to facilitate device support and management.

ScanWedge
ScanWedge captures and sends data from the device decoder, serial port, and IrDA interface to the foreground application as if it were entered via the keyboard.
ScanWedge expands the functionality of applications on the device by allowing them to receive bar code data even if they were not designed to. This means you can take
advantage of the device’s decoding engine without having to modify existing applications or learn how to develop software for the decoder.
ScanWedge is also useful for browser-based applications that require scanned data to be entered into web pages.
With ScanWedge, you can also:
Enable/disable specific bar code symbologiesControl LEDs and audio feedback for good scan/bad scan scenariosConfigure serial, decoder, and IrDA port settingsUse data formatting
Keyboard Status
Dolphin devices feature multiple alpha-numeric and numeric-alpha keyboard options that switch the keyboard between alpha and numeric modes. For added convenience when using the keyboard, Keyboard Status displays an icon in the Navigation bar at the top of every window that indicates which mode the keyboard is in, alpha or numeric.

Network Utilities
Network Utilities are three Power Tools that perform diagnostic functions of your network. Many of these utilities mirror the functionality available at the DOS-prompt in the PC environment.
IPConfig
Displays IP settings. You can release and renew an IP address as well as see the full configuration.
Ping
Pings a destination on the network and displays the path on the screen.
Route
Route displays the path a packet would take from the device to a desired IP address. Seeing the route can help troubleshoot large networks where there can be several paths taken to arrive at the same point with many intermediate systems (routers or bridges) involved.
WiFi Status On Windows Mobile 5.0-based devices, WiFi Status displays information from the 802.11 radio adapter and enables you to modify the Power setting, the BSS mode, and the SSID.
Registry Power Tools
Registry tools provide user-friendly interfaces for working with the registry. There are three Registry Power Tools:
RegBackup
Creates a backup file of the current registry.
RegEdit
Provides a user interface for editing registry entries (as seen in the graphic on the right).
RegRestore
Restores the registry settings from the registry backup file. You can program the device to launch RegRestore after each cold boot.
These tools allow your customized registry settings to be restored after a cold boot.

BattMon
BattMon enables you to check the charge on the battery just by looking at the device. When enabled, BattMon uses the LEDs on the front panel to notify you of the battery’s charge status. The green LED blinks when the battery is charging and lights solid green when the battery is fully charged.
HotKeys
HotKeys activates the button assignments that launch applications from a hardware button. This offers your users a faster alternative than navigating through menus on the touch screen.
EZConfig Utilities
EZConfig Utilities are the device-side portion of EZConfig Suite. EZConfig creates, edits, and maintains configuration files for the device, standalone software applications, Power Tools, and Demos. RASMan
RASMan establishes a PPP (Point-to-Point) connection with a RAS Server. RASMan connects Dolphin devices to Dolphin Net Bases, allowing Dolphin devices to reside on an Ethernet network.
Reboot
Reboot launches a warm or cold boot from the touch screen. Our devices have keyboard combinations that launch warm and cold boots manually. Reboot performs the same function from the touch screen for added convenience.
Suspend
Suspend puts the device in Suspend mode. You can put the device in Suspend mode manually via the keyboard. Suspend performs the same function from the touch screen for added convenience.
SetRAM
SetRAM adjusts the persistent versus RAM memory allocation on Windows Mobile 5.0 devices.

Command Bar Indicators and Menus
Some Power Tools display an icon on the Command bar at the bottom of the Today screen. These icons indicate the status of the power tool and, when tapped, open quick access menus of power tool options.
