ABSTRACT
POWER WALK is a energy harvestingmechanism which utilizes human kineticenergy and other vibrations to create
electrical energy Developing floor solutions that generate
electricity from pedestrian and vehicular
traffic. The basic principle used here ispiezoelectric effect.

How does POWERwalks flooring work?
This innovative energy generating equipment employs
piezoelectric technology to convert the kinetic energy from
foot traffic and other vibrations into electric energy. Thisproprietary circuitry design maximizes the electronic signal
and distributes electricity to its intended application or
battery storage system. A rugged flooring product is
custom designed around the electronics to protect thesensitive components inside.

What is Piezoelectricity?
Piezoelectricity is a naturally occurring phenomenon
exhibited by certain materials that will deform when
subjected to an electric current. POWER walk makes useof this unique material property in the opposite way. When
a force is applied to these materials, their atomic structure
shifts and an electric gradient is created which generates a
voltage across the material. When the piezoelectric
material is integrated into a circuit, this voltage will create aDC current.

PIEZOELECTRIC MATERIALS
When a mechanical stress was
applied on crystals such as
tourmaline, topaz, quartz, and
Rochelle salt, electrical
charges appeared, and thisvoltage was proportional to the
stress.

PROBLEM
Lack of power generation sources that are
suited for urban environments
Today's renewable energy sources suchas wind, solar or hydroelectric are not
designed to function well in urban
environments where there is limited space,
high population density and lack ofsunlight due to tall structures

TODAY A CITYS ELECTRICITY HAS TO BE CARRIED
OVER MILES AND MILES OF POWER LINES TO GET
TO WHERE IT WILL BE EVENTUALLY USED,BY PLACING PIEZO ELECTRIC PADS IN HEAVY FOOT
TRAFFIC PLACES ENERGY CAN BE HARVESTED
RIGHT WHERE IT IS USED.

PROPOSED SOLUTIONS
The goal of the project is to solve the problem
of wasted human kinetic energy.
The solution is a flooring system that converts
human foot traffic into electricity through theuse of piezoelectric technology.
This electricity was then used to light up the
floor tiles of the system to provide feedback tousers that their footsteps alone could light up
the tiles.

What problems does POWER walk solve today?
The problem POWER walk is addressing is a lack of power
generation sources that are suited for urban environments.POWER walk's solution is designed to meet the energy
needs of an urban setting.
It can be seamlessly integrated into existing buildings,
requires no new infrastructure and performs better in areaswhere there are more people.

ADVANTAGES
Safe clean and renewable supplemental
source of power
The safety risks associated with thisdesign proposal are minute
The piezo devices, due to their small thin
shape, could also be placed underneath
existing floor tiles or carpet with few
complications

TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS
We are intending to incorporate 3 tiles ofdimensions 12 x 12
An average person, weighing 60 kg, will
generate 0.1 watt in the single second requiredto take two steps across the tile
But when they are covering a large area of floorspace and thousands of people are stepping or
on them, then we can generate significantamounts of power.

CONCLUSIONS
In this era of increasing energy costs and
decreasing supplies of fossil fuels,
emphasis on protecting the environment
and creating sustainable forms of power
has become vital
