Why choose “Dining In” for Healthy Families?

• There’s a nationwide obesity epidemic.

• Research has shown that “…children who take part in family meals are less likely to be overweight, eat more healthy foods, have less delinquency, greater academic achievement, improved psychological well-being, and positive family interactions.

• The whole family benefits from family mealtime.

• Encouraging families to prepare simple, healthy meals and eat together supports the essence of family and consumer sciences: “Creating Healthy and Sustainable Families.”

• Family & Consumer Sciences Day serves to promote family and consumer sciences programs, tools, and professionals that support family mealtime.
