PowerPoint Terms
• Slide – individual page/screen• Slide Show – group of slides organized in a sequence• Presentation – the file containing the group of slides• Object – any item that appears on a slide• Transition – effect that occurs from one slide to next• Animation – effect accompanying
text/graphics/objects

• Normal – main editing view• Slide Sorter – view of slides as thumbnails• Slide Show – view the presentation

PowerPoint Guidelines
Keep it Simple• Use bullet points – not paragraphs• The fewer the better (4 max)• Be concise – 5 words max• Keep text easy to understand• Bullets are the main points• Presenter provides more details
Fonts
• Use large size (at least 24 point) for text • Up to 44 point for titles
• Avoid fonts with “feet” Times New Roman
• Use fonts w/out “feet” Arial• Use two or three different fonts at most• Be consistent
Capitalization/Punctuation
• Every bullet is followed by capital letter• No complete sentences• No periods, question marks, or
exclamation points• Avoid ALL CAPS
Graphics
• Add to the message of the slide• Should be related to slide content• Place off center• Limit graphics to one or two per slide
Color
• Use contrasting colors • Use single background color, style, or
theme• Be consistent
Transition & Animation
• One to three different transitions• Up to three different animations on
bulleted text• Too many animations can be distracting • May take away from your presentation
