Front CoverOn the next slide is an image of DRAFT 1 of my front cover that I created. I came up with different ideas and drafted them on a single sheet of a4 paper which helped me get ideas to make a good front cover. I then received feedback from another person which helped me see the positive and negative things about my draft I then worked on the feedback for my second draft. I rotated the image on the original file however it will not rotate so it is faced sidewards on the blog.

Front Cover Feedback

First Draft –Chloe’s first draft is very detailed and includes most of the media conventions for a front cover of a magazine. The convention Chloe has included are a masthead, headline, barcode, lure, kicker, price and splash image as well as secondary images. The layout of her magazine front cover conveys all media conventions of a front cover for a magazine. Her masthead is the biggest font on the page and is in the top quarter of the page which again conveys the media conventions. In order for Chloe to improve I think she should only include a maximum of two images as normally there is only one main image known as the splash image on a front cover of a magazine.

Second DraftOn the next slide is my SECOND DRAFT which is based on the feedback I was provided with for my first draft, using the feedback I added improvements to my front cover and made changes to make the front cover better and more appealing.

Second Draft Feedback

Second Draft –Looking at Chloe’s second draft the image used has been well thought out; she has removed all the background making the model just stand out. The model’s pose conveys the way in which models pose in a photo-shoot. The model’s attire is relevant to the magazine’s genre which is pop music and is also relevant towards the target audience as it is something they can relate to.In order for Chloe to improve she should vary the font more in order for it to look like a professional magazine. Also, she should fill up the spaces that are empty. Maybe she could also make the image bigger so that it fills the majority of the page. She should also straighten up the text so it is neat and looks in place. Finally, the banner at the top of the page does not really fit in with the colour scheme so maybe you could edit it to make it more effective.

Third DraftOn the next slide is my THIRD AND FINAL DRAFT. I took on board all of the feedback I was provided with and made the changes and improvements to my front cover making it the best it can be which means I am very happy with my final draft as it has been done to the best of my ability conveying all the media conventions.

Third Draft Feedback

Third Draft –For Chloe’s final draft I think she has taken all the feedback on well and made her front cover look to the best of her ability conveying all the media conventions when creating a front cover on her magazine.

Contents PageNext, I was required to produce a contents page for the magazine. Contents pages are to inform the reader as to what is on each page of the magazine and give a little overview into the content of the magazine. I researched other music magazine contents pages to see what they looked like and what they would include to give an idea of what I could do with my own contents page. From this, I created my FIRST DRAFT on paper which is previewed on the next slide.

First Draft –

Chloe’s first draft conveys the media conventions when creating a contents page. She has included an image, editor’s signature, page numbers, sub headings and text about what each article is about on each page. It seems to have a lot of potential but maybe she could vary the font of the editors note for effect.

Second DraftAfter this I created my SECOND DRAFT of my contents page on the computer shown on the next slide, again using the photo shop programme. Here is the feedback on my first draft and my second draft of my contents page.

Second Draft –

Looking at Chloe’s second draft she has made the page numbers big enough in order so that the reader can locate the page numbers straight away without having to fuss around trying to find the page number. She has also included sub headings at a bigger font size than the other text she has included. In order for Chloe to gain more marks she should make the sub-headings a different colour and maybe even make the first line in capital letters which would be really effective. At the moment it is all too pink so change the colours. Also, make the page numbers significantly bigger so that they stand out and it is easy for the readers to be aware of the page numbers to find what they want to read about.

Final DraftOn the next slide is my THIRD AND FINAL DRAFT. I took on board all of the feedback I was provided with and made the changes and improvements to the contents page making it the best it can be so that for the user it is easy to use and it meets the criteria for a contents page.

Final Draft-

Looking at Chloe's third and final draft, it is clear she has taken my feedback and advice on board which has meant that it looks more professional and conforms to typical contents pages of magazines. It is clear it is well constructed and planned out which has resulted in a nice piece of work.

Double Page SpreadI created my FIRST DRAFT on an A3 sheet of paper based on research of double page spreads, the research i did helped me to get an idea and understanding of what i needed to do to make my own double page spread. On the next slide is an image of my first draft.

First Draft Feedback –

Chloe's first draft displays a clear outline of what her DOUBLE PAGE SPREAD is going to look like. The left hand side is plain and simple which is effective. It is clear Chloe has researched double page spreads as other typical DPS's have a big image assisted with a quote on the left hand side and on the right hand side, it has more text. In terms of improvements, I would recommend the masthead is at and angle which would be more effective rather than being in a straight line. In addition to this, instead of putting "Q1" "Q2" she could be more creative. There is an empty space on the bottom right have corner which also should be filled up. This may mean adjusting the images or adding something different but I would suggest she adds the image into a different position and lengthens the interview answers so they cover more of the page.

Second DraftOn the next slide is my second draft that I created on the computer. I read through the feedback Tia gave me which helped me to do some improvements and make changes to my double page spread so I worked on my second draft.

Second Draft Feedback –Your second draft looks like it has a lot of potential however it still needs work done on it. Firstly, on the first page, I like the editing you have done on the image-it is really effective against the background. However, critically, I believe you should only have one quote, preferably the first quote as it will make it more effective and conform to typical magazine double page spreads. Also, make the image larger so it fits the majority of the screen. The image looks very well thought out and is really effective and works well. In terms of the second page of your DPS second draft, it is really good. Just by looking at it, you can tell what is it and what its purpose is. However, to improve, I believe you could change the font and the font colour of the masthead and the bright green doesn't appear often and is not a recurring font colour throughout the project. If you change the font so that It is the same font text and maybe even colour as your contents page masthead and your front cover masthead then this will be really effective as this is what typical pop and generally music magazines would do.

Third DraftThird Draft -

I created my third draft based on my feedback. For my THIRD DRAFT, I created two A4 pages on Photoshop, printed them off and in the next slide is an image of them. I edited the image of the girl band on the left hand side in black and white and changed the contrast so the lighting was appropriate. I am really happy with my final draft as it looks the way I hoped it would look.

Third Draft Feedback –

Your third draft is a lot better than the second one and shows clear improvement. It conforms a typical double page spread that would be in a magazine in the shops which is really effective.
