Creating a brand that

impacts the
community of
Alberton
Organisational change is both the process in which an organisation changes its structure, strategies, operational methods, technologies, or organisational culture to affect change within the organisation and
the effects of these changes on the organisation. Organisational change can be continuous or occur for distinct periods of time.

Amcare’s Brand
Amcare Brand Launch – 23rd October 2018Amcare Reaching the most Vulnerable.
Amcare Journey and brand launch was a crucial turning point in terms of Amcare's service delivery. It gave Amcare an opportunity to engage with the community and provide a brand that could be related to. The concept behind the brand is that it reflected the service delivery awareness colours of the organisation. Red being for HIV/AIDS care and relief, orange represents gender based violence, green shows the role Amcare plays in Child Protection and white is for the care of the elderly. It is through the concept of the new brand that Amcare strives towards holistically improving the lives of the most vulnerable in the community.

A Vision statement is an organisation’s road map, indicating
what the organisation wants to become by setting a defined
direction for the organisation's growth.
A Mission statement is a short statement of why an organisation exists,
what its overall goal is, identifying the goal of its operations.
Organisational values describe the core ethics or principles which the
organisation will abide by, no matter what.
I just want to start by saying, I am very ecstatic and blessed to work as an employee for Amcare. Amcare has been a home where I was loved and accepted for who I am without being judged.
From 2002 , I started off working as a gardener, and began growing a passion for plants. A few years later I was promoted to be a Driver, transporting food to townships and clients to hospital. Mid-year I was then promoted to be a Maintenance manager. I’ve managed to excel and do well whereby I even won the
2018 Employee of the year.
I respect and love my job and also enjoy working under pressure. About the brand, I am positive that Amcare will continue to grow and help people who are in need.
When I talk about the brand, I’m positive and believe that Amcare is growing, especially if you look at Amcare, where it started and the huge difference today. My vision is, I would like to see Amcare becoming a well-known charity organization in South Africa and around the world, and become self-sustainable.
General Manager
Marihet Infantino
Chairperson
Dr. Vernon van Wyk
It was an honour to serve as the Chairperson of the Management Board of AMCARE for the past financial year.
Amcare is a Non-Profit organization (NPO# 016-772) that is dedicated to assisting the most vulnerable in society. We render specific and specialisedclient-orientated social work, health-care services and skills training in the Alberton Magisterial District in the Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Municipality, which includes the communities of Alberton, Eden Park, Greenfields, Phola Park, and Thokoza. The profile of our beneficiary community is approximately 95% African, 4% Coloured and 1% White. Amcare is accredited on a B-BEEE Level 1, 135% Procurement.
As I glance back over the activities of the last year as highlighted in this Annual Report, I am mindful of the many persons who have benefited from the essential social and health care services of AMCARE. With the assistance of managers, administrative staff, social workers, social auxiliary workers, nurses, caregivers, skills trainers and shelter staff we are making a large impact in holistically improving the wellbeing of individuals, groups and communities in Greater Alberton and beyond our borders. Without the staff and volunteers dedicated to the task of assisting destitute people we would not have been able to achieve all that we did.
Social Work forms the core of our service delivery package rendered within the mandate given by the Department of Social Development and the Amcare Constitution (as amended 2012). We strive to deliver social work programmes that are aimed at the poorest of the poor, vulnerable women and children impacted by domestic violence and HIV/AIDS, as well as the elderly above 60 years of age.
As previously reported, we terminated our circumcision services at Injabulo Clinic, due to changing funding requirements of PEPFAR and our inability to source alternate funding. The termination of this service has however enabled us to accommodate our Social Work professionals in a better environment. We however continue with our original HAST services in the form of being a Down-referral ARV site for Germiston Hospital, HIV/AIDS testing, life-style counselling, adherence management for clients infected and affected by HIV/AIDS.
Good governance is essential when working in an Organisation. I would like to thank all of our Board members for work well done. The drive to ensure consistent good governance is bearing fruit. I wish to thank those Board Members who have performed an active oversight function, advising and assisting staff, whilst not taking over the operational functions. We can only grow our services on such a sound footing.
Compliance to financial controls continue to enjoy attention, with the Board taking their fiduciary responsibility seriously. Financial reports are rigorously perused during Board meetings and areas of over – or underspending are interrogated. With our auditing firm reporting at our monthly meetings and with the internal financial controls instituted by our finance team and Treasurer, it is so much easier to comply with statutory requirements and principles of good governance. Nevertheless, in order to improve our accounting practices, the Board has requested that an appropriate electronic financial package, to meet the changing requirements of our environment, be purchased and implemented in the 2019/2020 financial year. The Board was also active in the compilation of budgets for the 2019/2020 financial year.
Funding remains a major challenge at AMCARE and the organization needs to get to a position where it does not function month to month from hand to mouth and to that end, we need to be able to have at least three months reserve funds. This places a large challenge on the fundraising- and marketing team. We acknowledge the continued financial support given to AMCARE by Joy Global, Atlas Copco, Widney, Formula 1 and numerous other companies and individuals. The continued partnering and funding by the Gauteng Department of Social Development enabled us to provide social services to our communities. Donations in kind by the community, which is sold in our Shop-n-Doodle is a welcome source of much needed funding. (I wish to place on record the efforts of our Deputy Chairperson in turning this venture into a viable income-generating project).
As always it is a struggle to find volunteers to serve on our committees and I would like to invite more people with fund-raising, financial, legal and human resource management skills to join us at AMCARE.
AMCARE is privileged to host CANCER SA and Stepping Stone Hospice on our premises. Both these organizations complement our services to the most vulnerable in their specialized fields. We look forward to the extensions to Stepping Stone Hospice to provide more palliative care beds. We are also going to benefit from the soon to be established Centre for Palliative Learning which will fill a gap in our original skills development vision to provide training for care givers in our community.
Lastly, I wish to express my gratitude to the Lord Jesus Christ who allowed us to grow AMCARE into an organization that is widely acclaimed and recognized by the Methodist Church, government and civil society as a model of good practice;
Page 2

Every year, during this time, I have to reflect on what took place in the previous
financial year and every year I am amazed by the fact that we have survived
another year – survived despite a down turn in the economy, despite a high
unemployment rate, despite the deceleration of the Rand, despite increased
poverty, Amcare, as a NPO, made it for yet another year. A great deal of our
survival I can attribute to staff or donors or sponsors, but ultimately only God is
the Provider and in Him we trust. And this provision, He has proven over and
over to the staff and beneficiaries of this organization.
One huge light of opportunity, was the fact that we were able to launch our new
brand for the organization and in this way welcome a new era of change. A great
deal of research and effort was put into renewing the face of Amcare and to align
our efforts and services with the real needs of people in the communities we
serve.
I would like to thank each and every member of our society that made a
contribution to the success and survival of the organization, be it the
Department of Social Development or old stalwarts like Joy global SA
Foundation, MACSTEEL or individuals like Dr. F. Diesel, G. Henry and B.
Armitage. Without your understanding of “Reaching the most vulnerable”, we
will not have been able to reach as many beneficiaries as we did. A special
thank you to the Senior Staff whom have to work together under sometimes
very stressful circumstances, as well as the Supervisory/Co-ordinatory staff who
support their efforts.
This Annual Report is a celebration of the efforts and services of all the staff on
our property and the lives of the beneficiaries they changed in the process. We
believe that through impacting one person in the community, a whole
community can be changed for the better

Amcare Services
Programmes that empowerThe term empowerment refers to measures designed to increase the degree of autonomy and self-determination in people and in communities in order to enable them to represent their interests in a responsible and self-determined way, acting on their own authority. It is the process of becoming stronger and more confident, especially in controlling one's life and claiming one's rights. Empowerment as action refers both to the process of self-empowerment and to professional support of people, which enables them to overcome their sense of powerlessness and lack of influence, and to recognize and use their resources.

Heart StringsWe may not all be directly affected by the vulnerability, violence, illness or poverty that Amcare’s
Beneficiaries face on a daily basis. For many of us we may find it difficult to comprehend what individuals may experience at the violent hand of a loved one. It may be hard to imagine how poverty robs individuals of their dignity. For many of Amcare’s beneficiaries they experience much of what is
described here on a daily basis. For the communities in which Amcare render services, individuals find hope, comfort and strength through the services offered.
Amcare is privileged to share a few of our beneficiaries stories. We hope that they will pull on your heart strings. As you read the stories find encouragement in knowing that through your financial
support, time and resources Amcare can be your hands and feet reaching the most vulnerable in the communities.
What pulls at your heart;
A community filled by
vulnerable individuals should

I would like to thank the staff of Amcare in totality as all of them have played important different roles in my life. They
gave me hope in life and today I am optimistic about my future. I got a place that I have started a new life in on my
own and I am grateful to Amcare for giving me a chance to re-write my life.
Enabling Girls to Dream
Amcare can only
continue reaching the
vulnerable with services
through the support of
the community.
Firstly, I appreciate everything this group has done for me, and
all it has brought into my life. I appreciate it a lot because it
brought a lot of change. Since the first day I joined the group I
felt comfortable and I enjoyed myself. The group taught me a
lot of things like how can I protect myself from HIV, rape and
human trafficking, etc.
Since I was a part of Amcare I have changed a lot, I see things
in a different way than before. I have changed emotionally and
physically. Secondly, I enjoyed the camp a lot because the
exciting part of it was my birthday.
I cannot begin to tell you about where I come from and how much I was hurt.
However I can tell you about how much I have healed and got courage to live life
again because of Amcare. I am a proud mother to my children today because
Amcare helped me a lot emotionally, physically and spiritually.
I was working as a domestic worker and couldn’t see what I was working for at
the same time being abused by a boyfriend that I was living with. I felt useless to
my children because I had nothing and couldn’t fight for myself. At Amcare I was
reminded of how special I am as woman, and I regained self-love.
I attended a catering course that I got certificated for, I got a job through Amcare,
I was taught how to save and budget. I found myself while staying in the shelter
and I realised that I am a good mother because I fled an abusive relationship.
I am proud to say enough is enough and I am no longer scared to make it into the
abuse free future. I have identified my mistakes and correcting them as I am facing
the future.
A word of advice to other people who have endured abuse physically and
emotionally like me is, there are places like Amcare where you can get help without
being judged. Make use of such places.
Thank you Amcare for everything you have done for me.
This was my first time I enjoyed celebrating by birthday. I so wish I can always enjoy my birthday. I learned a lot at the
camp, enjoyed the games and also swimming. The fun part was the fun of swimming but I can’t swim well and I also
enjoyed dancing.
I learned a lot like in life things are tough. We do face challenges but you should always be strong in life, talk with
people you trust and you should ask other people. I also enjoyed the graduation I felt so special and I am fun of
taking pictures. My life now is happy, free and I no longer cry like before, I’m always happy at all times. Bye, bye
thanks
Thank you all may God bless you.
I’m writing this letter to thank Amcare and Pepfar for giving me this opportunity
to learn about matters relating to teenage girls. When the groups started I was
so shy and I could not speak in front of people, but as the sessions continued I
learned to communicate with my peers and how to express my feelings.
I also learned a lot about communication with my parents as I could not tell
them the way I felt. Due to my background I had this fear of not believing in
myself but our facilitators taught me to overcome my fear. I know that I will
never let my background define who I am. I believe that having a dream is very
important.
Thank you
I am so grateful for writing this letter thanking you for
the opportunity you gave me. I learnt so many things
like the consequences we face in life like teenage
pregnancy, peer pressure etc. Now I can communicate
with my parents. I don’t play until 8 pm at night any
more so thank you.
You are the best. The best for giving me strength, self-
esteem, self-motivation, self-love and being selfless.
I’ve been selfish thinking just only for myself. In any
conflict we get me and my parents we find a way to fix
it. You also helped me to choose the right path which
is helping my community.

Audited Financial Report
Amcare Annual General Meeting - September 2019.
Treasurers report
Income
Income for the year decreased by10% to R8.8m. This drop can be attributed to the general state of the economy and the fact that no funds were received from the National lottery, whilst the Chaps activities and funding were terminated.
Expenditure
Every effort was made to curtail expenditure and the R9.8m reported represents a half percent rise compared to 2018. This resulted in a deficit of R1.1m for the year.
Clearly this is not sustainable and we have taken the following steps to ensure the future of Amcare:
I. The 2019 Lotto application has been submitted and we expect cash flow from this source by December.
2. We have employed an additional marketing executive to enable us to reach a wider donor base in the greater Alberton area.
3. We are working well with our traditional sponsors to ensure that we do not lose this valuable funding source.
4. The kitchen has been identified as a focus area for training students as well as to generate income by providing catering services to clients-both corporate and individuals-in our surrounding areas.
5. All expenses remain under scrutiny and we believe our actions listed above will ensure that
Amcare continues to do God’s work here in Alberton.
