Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams

Sri Venkateswara College was established as a result of thevision and hardwork of three stalwarts, Dr DurgabaiDeshmukh, Dr K.L.Rao and Dr C.Anna Rao under the benignauspices of the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD),Tirupati, Andhra Pradesh in 1961

About the College

The Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD) engaged in the management of the sacredhill temple of Lord Sri Venkateswara at Tirupati (Andhra Pradesh) believes that thetemple as a place of worship must bring about national integration and, schools andcolleges should light up the path of devotion through education and enlightenment.Inspired by its zeal to spread the spiritual values and Indian culture, a devout scholarand an active social worker Dr. Durgabai Deshmukh engaged some of the finestthinkers of modern India like Dr. Sarvapalli Radhakrishnan, Dr. C. Anna Rao and Dr.K.L. Rao to establish Sri Venkateswara College at New Delhi under its aegis in 1961.

Located today in Dhaula Kuan and acknowledged as the South Campus’s numero unoco-educational college offering a wide- ranging bouquet of up to date studyprogrammes and boasting an enrolment strength rivaling many a small university, ithas expanded over the half century adapting dynamically and continually to felt needsand the emerging educational demands of the times. The College imparts highquality education to students through innovative pedagogy and modern trainingfacilities, provides holistic personality development through strong academicscoupled with active participation in co-curricular programmes that include fine arts, sports and leadership training. The objective is to develop a sense of ethics andresponsibility in students and to broaden their perspectives so that they are able tosucceed in today’s global, competitive and dynamic environment. The four guidingprinciples of the doctrine of Indian culture, namely, dedication and duty, materialwell-being for the benefit of society, pleasure of meaningful living and salvationthrough self-knowledge were meant and remain still the chosen ideals vivifying itsbranches of arts, humanities and sciences in the college. Unsurprisingly then, it isperceived as a feather in the cap of today’s student community to be able to say thatthey are a “Venkyite” – a popular mantle many aspire to, but only a fraction of theaspirants will ultimately be able to actually claim.

Sri Venkateswara College today has 180 teaching and 250 non-teaching staffmembers and around 3500 students on its roll. It also offers 10 post-graduate coursesfor study and provides one year post-graduate diploma course in Molecular andBiochemical technique and a certificate course in German Language.
