Cost & Benefits of sustainability
Limited by materials for DesignersInnovationSustainable materials from research.Cost of Water, Chemistry, Waste, & LaborFreshwater limited quantity
To create such designed shoes for our consumers, our amount of materials needed are limited. Therefore, we are trying to come up with an innovation that helps us find those sustainable materials instead of our limited resource. They have formed several programs to manage the cost of materials such as Water, Chemistry, Waste, and Labor. Their goal is less limited materials, more reusable beneficial items. The cost of this systematic in the water program is actually inexpensive. Because the freshwater all over global is under pressure, the cost of supply is pushing up. Unfortunately, most fabrics would require water for dyeing and finishing facilities that would use and discharge about 20 gallons of water per pound of textile. Nike is working on using less water for fabrics and set a good example to encourage other factories to reduce using water as well. 700 gallons of water creates one fabric shirt. Nike has caluculated and noticed that they used 325 million gallons of water while others are using total of billions of gallons, at least 3 billion.
