You have within you tremendous, untapped strength and power – your muscles!

Tiny DancerPat Handler, pictured with her trainer Emily, is a 78 year-old

retired homemaker. She came to PowerSource in June of 2007 to train for the National Smooth Ballroom competition to be held in September 2007. Smooth Ballroom Competition requires her to perform in Waltz, Viennese Waltz, Fox Trot, and Tango.

I’d like to say the reason Pat looks so fi t and toned is because of PowerSource, but she looked fabulous when she started. Her goal was to build strength, fl exibility, and develop better balance in order to help her have more confi dence and control to give her a winning edge.

Pat’s trainer Emily had her do curtsey lunges with dumbbells, Bosu ball squats, wobble- board deadlifts, and lots of crunches for core strength while following a high protein diet. After training from June right up until the September competition, Pat placed 1st nationally in her division, 71+ years old. She recently competed in Los Angeles with women 51+ and fi nished an outstanding 2nd.

Anniversary Gift of StrengthIn June of 2008, Roxie Thompson, 53, wrote to me because she was inspired by the success stories on the

PowerSource web site and wanted to help her husband, Fred, 58, recover after two years of setbacks. Fred had undergone two back surgeries, including and anterior/posterior spinal fusion. Fred also has arthritis in both hips which caused great discomfort, especially when he tried to exercise. Due to these setbacks, he had gained considerable weight in his midsection.

For their anniversary, Roxie gave Fred couples training with Judy to do the Getting Younger, Getting Stronger course. They worked out once a week at PowerSource and twice a week at home with a barbell they had purchased. Judy has helped them select a bench and rack for their home gym. After only ten sessions they are very good at doing a whole body workout with barbells and dumbbells.

Fred can do squats and deadlifts; he has no pain during or after his workouts. His lower back is stronger and more stabilized. He has less pain in his hips from the arthritis, his neck pain is going away, has more muscle, and his pants fi t looser.

Roxie is down from a size 6/8 to a 4/6. She has a fl atter stomach and less pain in her neck and shoulders.TRAINING TIP from Roxie and Fred: Do it together – it makes it more fun!

Family FitnessJacie Fogelberg, 45, is a wife and mother of two: daughter,

Adair – 10, and son, Jack – 8. Jacie works full time as a client advisor for a wealth management fi rm.

Jacie came to PowerSource in July of 2008 to become healthy. She wanted more muscle tone and to have her clothing fi t better. She also wanted a sound nutritional eating program.

Jacie has greatly increased her energy and has more even energy levels. She has dropped a whole pants size. She has her whole family eating healthy meals.

Jacie brought her daughter, Adair, to train for strength, injury prevention, and a competitive edge in her swimming competitions. Adair was a participant in the State Swimming Championship in 2007 and 2008.

Jacie and Adair do sit-ups together every night and eat their training diet together.

Congratulations and Good Luck to Our Marine!

In December 2008, trainer Heath Lanctot will graduate from the University of Minnesota with a bachelor’s degree in kinesiology pre-physical therapy.

He will be leaving PowerSource after his graduation in December to pursue his career in physical therapy. He plans to attend the Army School of Physical Therapy at Baylor University in Houston, TX with the goal of becoming a Lieutenant in the Army and become a physical therapist for veterans and military personnel.

We will greatly miss Heath, his energy, enthusiasm, and ability to motivate everyone in the room. We will miss the sound of “Suck it, Buttercup,” ringing throughout the room.

We will all miss our Marine!

Train and StayStrong Together!

That is the motto of elementary music teacher, Susan Charles, 46, and her medical lab technician husband, Gordon, 52. They are the parents of two: a son, 17, and daughter, 14.

Several years ago, Susan gave Gordon a gift certifi cate for couples training from PowerSource. Gordon’s goal was to slim down his waist and lower his cholesterol to avoid being put on medication. Susan wanted to be tougher than her twin sister who is a runner.

Susan and Gordon have been working hard with their trainer, Heath, and have had wonderful results. Gordon is down from a 40" to 36" waist and his cholesterol is under control – no meds required. He also notices that all of his lower back pain is gone. Susan has no more shoulder and neck pain. She is also extremely strong and toned!

TRAINING TIP from Gordon and Susan: Train together to stay strong together – and DON’T QUIT!

Beating Eating Disorder

Alix Noonan, 20, is a student at St. Thomas University. She also works at Lunds and volunteers at Our Lady of Grace church.

Alix came to PowerSource because her fear of gaining weight had caused her to skip meals and over-exercise. She was having dizzy spells and found it hard to concentrate with low energy levels.

At PowerSource she learned to eat three healthy meals per day and get her protein to build muscle. Her trainer, Erica, taught her to shape and tone her body with a three time a week weight training that she could do at home.

Besides slimming and toning her body in a healthy way. Alix has been able to go back to school and focus on her studies, motivate and have energy to get her new job and have the confi dence to make decisions for herselft. She has new found energy and focus and is not afraid to eat.

Alix says she is now creating her own happiness and discovering what she wants in life. She loves working out with Erica twice a week, not only because Erica teacher her how to create the body she wants with her weight training workouts and training diets but because she and Erica have a lot in common which has helped Alix feel better about herself.

TRAINING TIP from Alix: Write down food and always plan ahead.

Riding HighMary Anne Roloff, 72, came to PowerSource in July

of 2007 with a goal of keeping of mobility. After two hip replacements, one in 2000 and the other in 2005, she was left with two metal hips resulting in a loss of balance and fear of falling.

Since starting training with Judy, Mary Anne lost 40 lbs in only two months, built enough strength to do barbell squats with 20 lbs and incline bench press with 20 lbs.

Mary Anne’s balance is much improved. Her biggest triumph is being able to climb up on the backhoe that her signifi cant other operates in his building projects. Before training, Mary Anne had to have help getting up the steps of the backhoe so she could ride along.

At 72 years old, Mary Anne is 40 lbs lighter, stronger, more fl exible, and more independent. Her posture and balance have greatly improved, and she moves like a younger woman.

TRAINING TIP from Mary Anne: Eat your protein to build muscle and make healthier hair, skin, and nails.

Delisi, has added Vegas – her miniature Schnauzer – to our staff this year.

Vegas acts as an assistant trainer on Tuesdays and Thursdays. She greets everyone at the door to fi re them up for their workout. She encourages them to do their crunches by licking their faces when they are on the fl oor doing ab work.

Vegas also helps clients do aerobics by running around the room with them.

We love having Vegas – the PowerSource Pup – on our staff!

PowerSource Hero of 2008!Theresa lost 100 lbs in 9 months

Theresa Schyma is our PowerSource hero for 2008. She is 29 years old and works as a Deputy City Clerk for the City of Richfi eld.

Theresa came to PowerSource in January of 2008 to try our Weight Loss Challenge. She had not weighed herself in two years. Theresa had been gaining weight since the eighth grade and had to give up all her sports and knew she was in trouble. She had started a new job and decided to start a new fi tness program.

Theresa was shocked to fi nd when she weighed in at PowerSource in January that she weighed 330 lbs. She decided to try the 15 week Weight Loss Challenge and try to lose weight naturally but had made a decision that if it did not work she would do gastric bypass surgery, as scary as it sounded.

Theresa trained twice a week for the fi rst fi ve weeks with her PowerSource trainer, with her training partner Cindy, a fellow Weight Loss Challenge participant. She lost 15 lbs in the fi rst fi ve weeks has never looked back.

Theresa (1) logged all her calories; (2) gave up fast food; (3) ate three healthy meals, containing protein, each day; and (4) does two training sessions with her trainer and Cindy. She started adding different aerobic activities such as tennis, volleyball, and water aerobics that helped her develop new friends and a new social life to make losing weight more fun.

In October Theresa was down to 227lbs (103 lbs of weight lost) and is still going for another 80 lbs.

TRAINING TIP from Theresa: Find a good, reliable workout partner. Be consistent with the training diet. Have fun and variety in your workouts.

Fit at FortyPaul Fox, 41, is the owner of two home health care agencies and the father of two

children, ages 9 and 11. Paul was tired of his weight shifting and he wanted to tone up. He has been training two times per week with his trainer, Steve, since 2007.

Paul has developed more of a “V” shape, fuller chest, wider shoulders and arms, a smaller waist, and more toned abs. He has a lot more confi dence and feels much stronger. Paul likes training with Steve because he pushes him and keeps him in check so his workouts are a focused, intense, and regular part of his work week. Paul says he’ll never give up his training sessions!

TRAINING TIP from Paul: Listen to your trainer.

Mom Muscles UpMelissa Tester, 31, works

full time in sales and has three children: ages 14, 4, and 10 months. After her second child, Melissa lost all but 10 lbs of the weight she gained during pregnancy. After her third child, she was left with an additional 6 lbs. Melissa had tried other gyms but had no success in shedding the weight that plagued her.

Melissa came to PowerSource at the end of June 2008 to shape up and lose that extra weight. Her “realistic” goal was to weigh 130lbs. Her ultimate goal was to weigh 125 lbs. Over the course of ten sessions with her trainer, Emily, Melissa lost the 16 lbs. By mid-September, Melissa hit her goal of weighing 130 lbs. In early October, Melissa hit her ultimate goal of 125 lbs! To date, Melissa has lost 24 lbs and went from a size 10 to a size 4, and lost six inches off her waist.

When Melissa started training, she trained once a week with her trainer, and twice a week at home. Her home training sessions were after work, after the kids were in bed. That meant some nights she worked out at 9pm! She now works out over her lunch hour. Melissa unfailingly logs her food. For her, it was mind over matter. And she can do anything she sets her mind to!

TRAINING TIP from Melissa: If you’re going to do it, you have to do it 100%. Log your food. Don’t skip your home workouts.
