THE DATE SAVE POWESHIEK COUNTY 4-H NEWS November 2020 As mentioned last month, each month a project area will be shared. The project area will go into more depth and provide resources for all families. Our next project area is going to be Leadership! This is a great project area and one that offers so many great opportunities. Some different ways youth can get involved is through job shadowing a local leader, planning a club event or activity, un for an office position within your club and more! These are just ways to increase your knowledge of leadership! As mentioned last month, each month a project area will be shared. The

project area will go into more depth and provide resources for all

families.

Our next project area is going to be Leadership! This is a great project

area and one that offers so many great opportunities. Some different

ways youth can get involved is through job shadowing a local leader,

planning a club event or activity, un for an office position within your club

and more! These are just ways to increase your knowledge of

4-H Enrollment

All Clover Kids will need to enroll on 4-H online! Enrollment will start October 1st.

We have the following Clover Kid clubs: Sheridan ($5), Sugar Creek ($5), Lucky Clovers ($15),

Grinnell Afterschool, Montezuma Afterschool & Brooklyn Afterschool.

Clover Kid Enrollment

Enrollment is now open! The registration cost for the year is $35 per youth for traditional clubs. Na-

ture club will be $45. There are scholarships available through the Extension Office! Please contact

our office if you are in need of a scholarship.

The deadline for re-enrollments will be Monday, December

14th!

Club Challenge:

This year we will have a challenge for all 4-H Clubs to have members enrolled by December 14th!

The first club to reach 95% enrollment was Deep River! We are still looking for a second club and

that club will receive $25! .

Enrollment Payment

Payment:

Please don’t forget to submit payment for your enrollment! We now have a square credit card read-

er and can take card payments over the phone or you can stop in! (There is a service fee when us-

ing the square) Or you can mail, drop off a check or cash! You are not officially enrolled until our

office has received payment. Payment is due by December 14th!

4-H Programs

Pioneer Grant

This grant is meant to stimulate local 4-H clubs to plan and carry out community improvement ac-

tivities. If you and your club have a community service project in mind and would like some finan-

cial support to make that happen, here is your chance!

The grant is due to the Extension Office by January 25th, so we can get them to the State Office by

On this website there is an information sheet and application tips! This is a great opportunity!

Please let me know if you have any questions or need support in applying for this grant!

Iowa 4-H State Youth Council is putting together a state wide Non-

Perishable Food Drive from November 1st– December 1st! The goal

of the State 4-H Council is to reach 10,000 donations!

All items donated stay in Poweshiek County and are than donated! We

want to make this a club challenge to see what club can bring in the most

items! You can bring them to your November meeting or drop them off to

the Extension Office and we will mark what club you are representing!

Iowa 4-H Fighting Hunger

Meat Goat Virtual Workshop

On Thursday December 10th from 6:30pm-7:30pm there will be a Free Meat Goat Workshop.

Fayette County 4-H and Tayler Etzel, Cargill Animal Nutritionist are hosting this event! This event is

open to 4-H & FFA youth and adults!

If you wish to attend you much register by Friday, December 4th by emailing

Michele Kelly at [email protected] or calling the Fayette Extension Office

at 563-425-3331. When you register please include name of participant(s),

email address, phone number along with what county you are from!

BEEF INFORMATION

Beef Weigh-in

When: Saturday, December 12th– 1pm-3pm

Where: Grinnell Vet Clinic | 1631 West St

(south on HWY 146) Please turn around in airport road

and use it as a waiting area

What: All market beef animals being shown

at the Poweshiek County and/or Iowa State Fair

must be weighed in and tagged. This includes

second year bottle calves and production beef

(animals harvested at Dayton’s in July or ani-

mals entering the ultra-sound contest)

General Information:

Participants must enroll in 4honline AND pay

their $35 membership fee prior to weigh-in.

Weigh-in Fees:

County Fair Tag only: $3/head

State Fair Retinal Image Scan & Tag: $8/

head

YQCA

Any one showing livestock at the County and/or State

Fair must completed YQCA every year Now is a per-

fect time to get YQCA done for 2021 Poweshiek Coun-

ty Fair!

You can completed this online and the cost is $12. We will be hosting in-person trainings after the

first of the year, if you would rather come in person. The cost for in-person is $3. If you wish to com-

plete it online here is how you register: http://yqca.org/

Pease make sure to login using 4-H online login, so it will communicate back with our system that

you have completed the training!

State Fair Information:

Retinal images will be collected for all animals

that may possibly be exhibited at the State Fair.

After Weigh-in:

We are still waiting to hear how 4-H Online 2.0

will work with verifying animals. As soon as we

have information for how families verify we will

get that sent out!

Clover Kid After-School Program

This month Clover Kids will be learning about tangrams. Did you know that tan-

grams are made of a square divided into seven pieces? The Clover Kids will be

going on a Shape Hunt and creating their own tangram puzzle!

Montezuma will meet virtually on November 9th & 16th from 5pm-6pm via Zoom.

Our staff will be taking activity bags to the school, so youth will have all supplies needed to

participate.

Brooklyn group 1 will meet in person on November 4th from 2:30pm-4pm

Brooklyn group 2 will meet in person on November 11th from 1:30pm-3:00pm

Bailey Park (Grinnell) will meet in person on November 3rd from 2:30pm-4pm

Fairview (Grinnell will meet in person on November 10th from 2:30pm-4pm

Davis (Grinnell) will meet in person on November 19th from 2:45pm-4pm
